I tried to get my 11 year old stepdaughter to model for me this past weekend, but it didn't go over too well...too bad too, cuz that brown/auburn hat would look great on her with her red hair and pale skin. (yes, i have a red-headed step-child).

I'll probably force Athena to model the last hat for me later today. If I do, I'll post pics of that one too. I still have to write out the pattern for the last one and post it on Ravelry. in my copious free time.....

Thanks for the pics--they are great and an inspiration--love the colors. I have lots of bits of this and that which would make great hats. My mom goes for monthly injections that are a type of chemo but she still has her hair. The next time we go, I think I will ask the nurse if she knows of anyone who would like a hat and what color that person might like.

that's an excellent idea. If you're on ravelry, I really like the "butterfly hat" listed on there. I altered it slightly to use a thin yarn, but otherwise it's that hat. The only thing to keep in mind the yarn HAS to be super-soft...the scalp is so sensitive without hair anyway, then chemo makes their skin even more sensitive. Caron Simply Soft works well, although i try to use the silk/bamboo blends, or straight bamboo.

good luck!

I remember feeling that way. I made my first sweater with some very inexpensive cotton yarn, and the sweater had short sleeves. It was much easier than I thought it would be, and I love how it turned out! I still wear that sweater.

Thanks Shandeh,

I always seem to do that. I'll attempt to do something really hard and after I'm done I sit back and say ...
that wasn't so hard.

Maybe, an idea for a future CAL?? Lol

I've actually been thinking of doing a basic knitted sweater as a KAL here in the forum.
Maybe we could do a crochet vest CAL sometime. That would be an easy way to start garment work in crochet.

Oh absolutely! Either or I would love to learn both

I was a red-headed stepchild when I was younger! Now, I'm a white haired stepchild.

Wow..... these are amazing! Beautiful work! Lovely model! Lota "luven" there! Great hints on what type of yarns to use on sesitive scalps. I love working with the natural fibers. They are usually not too bright or intense but often that is just the look you want. I cannot say they are "easy" to work with but I so love the way it feels ! Angel wings for you! :) Azim

Thanks, I am on Ravelry and will look up the hat. I love Bernat Cottontots and they are making some really cool colors that do not look like baby yarn--might try some of that--love the way it feels.

I LOVE your white/silver hair--I was in my 30's when I went silver and used to try to color it--gave up. I earned every one of these unpigmented hairs teaching for 38 years, middle schoolers no less!!!!

Definitely! I went through all the "Carrot-top" names, braces, pimples, being a tom-boy, being a band geek, and being ridiculed for my religion! I wouldn't want to go through it all again, but it all made me who I am today. I'm confident, happy, and talented.....so it was worth it all.

Thanks! I love white hair too. Back when I was in my 20's and 30's, I used to know some ladies at church who had white hair. I always thought they looked like angels! :cloud9: I used to tell them how I felt, and that I hoped my hair would be white one day. Most of those ladies told me that they used to have red hair like mine.....so I was very hopeful! :)

When my hair first started fading from red, I was a bit disappointed. I tried to color it, but always looked like Ronald McDonald's sister. So, I gave up on the hair color. I'll just let it go white, because I love white hair.

It's fun looking at the things everyone's making. Last week I started making a hooded baby blanket for an expectant mom at my church. It's currently on hold as I had surgery on my hand 2 days ago. I've been waiting 4 months for the surgery and have been having pain in my hand for 3 years now. This surgery is my "hope" of my hand being normal again. I won't know for several weeks still if it worked, but I'm already going crazy not being able to crochet! I picked up the recently started blanket and my yarn tonight, while my husband glared at me, but it was still too painful so I set it back down. I guess I'll take it easy for a bit (at least until the stitches are out) :) Until I can get back at it, I'm enjoying looking at the new projects and all the beautiful CAL/KAL's.
