Crochet Along: Finished Blanket Photos

I have been having the most horrible time getting it together. What is the secret? I cannot tell you how many times I have had to take it apart and start over!! I want to take it outside and burn it but the yarn is fire retardant and would only leave a melted pile of plastic as a forever reminder!! I am going to give it one more try and hopefully it will be done and I can do the border.

Yorkiemom, are you having trouble assembling it? If so, I learned from sonoma a way to join the pieces using the flat braid method and it worked great.

I'm not having trouble attaching the motif's I am slip stitching them together, it's getting the right motif in the right place that is making me nuts. Pretty soon, lighter fluid, big puff!

In a previous post, Shandeh mentioned that she used hair clips to hold pieces together while sewing. In my second CAL (monochromatic) I bought a few cards of hair clips at the Dollar Store and they were wonderful in holding the motifs in the right order for a strip and then to hold the sewn strips together as the afghan was being connected! I, too, used a picture to ensure that I had the right motif in the proper place. Hope this helps! ... I have never posted yet, but I wanted to share a picture of my finished afghan. I must have changed my mind 5 times on my color scheme, but I am happy with the results. I am thinking about how to use my scrap yarn to make a matching pillow.

I loved looking at all the different layouts and color schemes. What fun this CAL has been!

Well i'm done. I had put off finishing because, well first I needed to make some hats for my sister-in-law's mom, who recently lost her hair due to chemo. Second, I was frustrated on how to do a border. I'm still not completely happy with what I ended up with, but it's done. I had almost an entire skein left of each color, and I wanted to use as much of it up as possible. I have enough left over between all the colors now to maybe make a pillow, which I might do. We shall see.

Oh, I think it's lovely! Such delightful colors, and it's nice and lacy throughout.

Finished! I added a column and a couple rows to cover me from chin to toes. I changed the final clue (navy) and love it so much. Edging was simple 3 rows of dc. I had a great time doing this CAL, my very first afghan and first large project made for myself.

I finally finished! This has been so much fun to be apart to the CAL for my first full size afgan. I have learned so much from Bernat and all of the talented crocheters on this forum. Thanks for all the insights and conversations on layouts, colors and life.

I love your border, the way the colors twist together is gorgeous!! I might try that as I am now starting my border (if I can figure it out). Nice job

It's easy!
With 1st color, join w sl st to any edge st, ch 9, pull large loop on hook and drop to back.
With 2nd color, join w sl st to next st (after color 1sl st), ch 9, pull large loop on hook and drop to back.
Repeat for 3rd color.
Pick up 1st color on hook (ch 9 that was dropped first) sc in next st (after color 3 sl st), ch 9, pull large loop on hook and drop to back.
Repeat, alternating 3 colors.
Join correct colors at the end w sl st. You might need to force a decrease, or double up a st to come out
even.

Here is a pic of my finished afghan, I am so happy with it. This is my second CAL and I love doing them, I don't get much time to go on the forums because I work backshifts but my clues keep me busy enough and I do get on long enough to read the comments and try to answer what I can. I love looking at all the pics and seeing the progress and how all the blankets seem to look different and have their own personality, good job everyone! Your Cal's are beautiful! Can't wait for the next one!! My sister-in-law is the proud owner of this blanket as it matches her colors.
