Box of Scraps

Postby laceyj1204 » Sun Apr 15, 2012 6:20 pm

The hubby and I were out wandering today and decided to go to our local Peddler's Mall. As we were wandering aimlessly I happened to spot a box full to overflowing with balls of yarn. Well, naturally, I'm quite intrigued so I go over and being looking at it. On the side of the box it says "Box of yarn $8.50" Now this isn't some little bitty rinky dink box...it's a box that printer paper comes in!!!! This thing is totally full of yarn!!! It seems to be mostly worsted weight with some baby type yarn thrown in. Almost all acrylic with like 2 balls of Peaches and Cream cotton. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do with all this scrap yarn, but I'm sure I'll come up with something!!! I'm open for any and all suggestions!! So, now that I've shared my exciting news with everybody I guess I'll shut up now and try to find somewhere to store all this blasted yarn!!!!

I recently came across a blanket called "Babette's blanket" made up of all little squares from 2" to 6". I ,also ,have a huge box of yarn that has been left over from all the many projects I have done. If you Google "Babette's Blanket" you can get a wonderful tutorial on how to make it. It looks like a painting and is very different from the usual granny square ones.

oh good, I have been waiting for an excuse to post this:

twenty - five years ago I made a scrap blanket with granny squares. Then 16 years ago I made another scrap blanket with stripes. I sewed them together so it is an extra heavy blanket. I put a square on the striped side to fold up the blanket into a cushion! For the granny blanket, just divide your scraps into dark and light colours and go for it, making 1/2 the square light and 1/2 dark. I showed it to a friend ( a guy ) twenty five years ago and he said it was the ugliest thing he had ever seen!!! I just know that no one will say that here!

I'm not a huge fan of stripes, but I really like the granny side!!! It's quite pretty in my personal opinion!!! I like the concentric squares! Awesome.

Think I've figured out what I'm going to do with my giant box of scraps....http://www.patchworkcrochet.com/garden.htm

I have the fabric to do the quilt, but I'm a much better crocheter than quilter so I think this may win and I'll find some other creative use for the quilt pieces!!!
