You're right! I'm sure there are several more blankets, which we will never see. Many people have been quietly participating, just perusing the forum for clues and advice. I wish we could see their work!

I heard lately that statistically and generally you will find 1 in every 5 people who will participate either if it is buying, selling or participating in an event (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). So if I heard correctly ( bare with me I am very not good with numbers  ) lets do a little math just for fun. There is over 6,000 registered members, so about 1,200 would have participated in doing Cal or Kal or both,(that is at least a possibility of 1,200 blankets) than 1 out of 5 participant would have posted their blankets ont the forum that is about 250 blankets. I think that is about what we see on the forum.. My point is (and if I am not mistaken) there is a LOT of blankets that we will never see.

Look at the number that was online the morning the first clue was given. I know there were a lot of people that weren't online at that time because of work, etc. (me being one of them). So we know that for sure there are a lot more afghans out there. Also there are a lot more people that could VOTE in the contest, too.

Shandeh,
I miss the clues and the tidbits. This has been a wonderful experience for me. I am still completing my afghan. I used the colors from the "Beautiful Things" family and love the colors. You are a tremnedous person and I would love to meet you some day. This has broadened my feelings for the computer too. Being able to communicate as we did in the Forum was neat. I will look forward to Bernat's offerings.

I miss the clues, too! But, I'm glad that Jen and Kaleigh are still coming to the forum to share Bernat news with us. :)

Thank you so much for the kind words! I wish I could meet you too.
And I agree about how amazing forum communication is....it's so cool to say something, and KNOW that someone will respond. And we all love to knit and crochet! :cloud9: I just love our forum. :)

By the way, I'm still working on my crochet afghan too. I wonder if I will ever finish it? :?

You might enjoy the smaller KALs and CALs we will be doing all year long here in the forum.
Come check it out!

After learning I'd be going to Beijing in less than a week, I packed half my cary-on bag with yarn from my stash and my Denise knitting needle kit. During a layover between flights in Chicago, I downloaded the first clues to th KAL/CAL. By the time I was settled in Beijing, I had started the KAL and wanted to start the CAL as well. The octogon motif just looked like the windows on the garden walls I walked past each day. I went to the best yarn shop in Beijing and bought yarn for the CAL in colors I had seen everywhere in their Chinese New Year posters. The shopkeeper spoke no English and I spoke no Chinese, but between my knitting bag, my knitted hat, and hers, we got along quite well.

As the KAL/CAL progressed, I hoped the final design would be flowers because I saw pictures of lotus flowers everywhere around the city. After returning to central Florida, I resolved to make the CAL my "Remember Beijing 2012" afghan. It's not finished yet, but I want to thank Bernat for what turned out to be a perfect afghan to remember a wonderful visit to a very far away city.

What a neat way to remember your trip Older! That will definitely be a special blanket full of memories :)

It reminds me of how I learned to crochet. I spent a year working with a couple who were missionaries in The Netherlands. It was there, on our quieter evenings, that Bernice taught me how to crochet. I remember choosing my yarn from a store there too. I had someone to speak Dutch for me though . . . your story is much more remarkable. I can just picture the two of you standing there gesturing back and forth and pointing at knitted hats trying to communicate ;)

I have treasured that year from my past for many reasons, but I think learning to crochet is pretty close to the top of my list. Thanks for sharing your story.
