Going Crazy!

So I think the 2012 CAL Mystery Afghan has ruined me! Not in a bad way, but usually I crochet alot in the fall and winter and once Spring comes I'm off doing other things. Not necessarily outdoor things, but just don't really have the urge to crochet. I used to happily sit and enjoy tv shows or play computer games with my husband (of course I don't spend all my time doing this, I do work part time and have a 4 yr old son so there's plenty to be done during the day!). I still watch tv, but my hands feel empty and the computer games only hold my interest now and then.

I worked so hard to get this CAL done before my hand surgery on April 30 and I succeeded, but now all I want to do is crochet (or learn to knit) and I am unable to do so. I've so many projects lined up that I'd be happy to start any one of them! My hand surgery was only minor and I only had 3 stitches (which were removed yesterday), but it's still very sore. Mind you it's been sore for 3 years, hence the surgery, but I am unable to crochet through this pain. And for those of you about to reprimand me, I know I know I shouldn't be trying while my hand recovers I just have no idea how long it will take.

To pass the time and keep my mind off the fact that I'd love to be crocheting, I've set up a puzzle my husband bought a while ago hoping I'd do it so he can hang it on the wall. It's of Machu Picchu in Peru and he loves the picture, but he's color blind so not much help in the working on the puzzle. I don't mind, but it's been years since I've done a puzzle. My mother always had them set up on a board on the kitchen table and it was only moved at meal times. Perhaps I'll post a picture when I finish if anyone cares to see it.

So the puzzle is definitely helping hold off the "crazy" so that's a good thing And the reason I'm sharing this story . . . . I'm not really sure except that it's fun to feel a part of a group like this and I'm unable to contribute crochet wise right now. That and also my son seemed to destroy the house this morning while I couldn't seem to get out of bed and I'm procrastinating cleaning up the disaster that's waiting for me Oh well, it can't be put off any longer . . .

I Deria, One thing, for sure, that is nice about this forum is that sooner or later someone will read it. See!! I read it Hope your hand heal soon so that you can go back to your love of crochet. But with a 4year old in the house I can imagine you are not bored often!!! In the meantime take time to heal, you'll be stronger afterward. BTW I hope to see the pic of your puzzle

I just bought a puzzle last week! I remember days of working on puzzles as a family, back in the 70's. Maybe I was hoping to recapture that simple feeling of peace and contentment?

Anyway, hope we can see a photo of you and/or your puzzle.

lialab - Thanks for reading my post! Thanks for the well wishes and I am taking time to rest. The puzzle is keeping me occupied in the evenings and today my son was so excited to help me find pieces. His "finding" was me finding and him pushing into place. It was pretty cute watching him imitate me as I searched the puzzle box for pieces that might fit.

Shandeh - That's a great memory I remember many moments of sharing with my mom over puzzles. Sometimes it was just a quick stop by the table to see if I could find the piece she'd been looking for or a short sit down and chat before I moved on. It was one of the rare times my mom sat still and we could talk. Good memories!

You reminded me that I have a puzzle of Starry nights by Van Gogh that's been sitting on a shelf for two years. Lately, after 18 years of sit-down dinners at the kitchen table, my family has been eating dinner on the couch in the living room. I think it will be a good idea to set the jigsaw puzzle up on the kitchen table. Great excuse to sit and chat with my private teenagers/young adults.

I plan to post a picture of my half finished puzzle tomorrow. I've not done much on the puzzle the last few days thanks to season finales of tv shows and the fact that all I have left are different shades of blue and it got a little trickier I also managed to hurt my bad hand on Monday so have been taking it easy until the pain and swelling subside, yet again Apparently buckling 4yr olds into car seats is dangerous work! Okay can't really blame it on my child. I do up the seat belt with the good hand with the bad one resting on the console in the car. I truly have no idea how I slipped, but my bad hand slid all they way down the console to the floor. I'm sure it looked hilarious if anyone had been watching, but it didn't feel that way.

If you two break open your puzzles, I'd love to see pictures along the way as well! Until tomorrow . . .

Thanks for your concern about the hand It seems to have recovered, mostly, from the accident last Monday. I'm just being really really careful. Now on to pictures. I will post a picture of the box so you can see what the end result should be. Then I'll post a picture of my progress so far. The progress one is not quite right. It's too long to fit nicely in the camera screen so I ended up using the panaroma setting and stitching the pics together. I didn't line up my pics very well and then the camera battery died. Still you'll get the idea.
