The CALs are great fun. Wednesday becomes something to look forward to, besides being the middle of the work week. It's wonderful to read the forum posts. The creativity of those participating in the CAL is amazing. From the pictures of the finished projects, there weren't two afghans that were exactly alike. That is what I like best about the CAL: the participants can use their own creativity on colors, how to assemble it and how to finish it. If you don't like the suggested method, come up with your own or borrow from someone else. Many thanks to the moderators. I especially like the hexagons combined with squares. It's an unusual design and quite attractive.

This really was a fun and interesting KAL/CAL. I did the KAL and really enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to doing some of the smaller ones offered until next year for the big one. I am a "newbie" to all of this but enjoyed reading the postings by everyone. I learned to knit with the KAL so the videos helped me a lot as well as the great tips that everyone posted. I would love to see a KAL (probably smaller one) on how to knit a garment such as an easy spring/summer cardigan or some dressy shawls. About a year ago when Princess Kate Middleton went grocery shopping the media went nuts trying to figure out where she purchased the beautiful shawl she had on. It really was beautiful and many yarn companies have their version/pattern of it. It would be nice to see something like that at Bernat.com. too. It is a beautiful soft and feminine shawl - that would be nice to make for a small KAL.

Oh, I agree. That really is pretty. I would love to try and do this.I will keep an eye out to see if the shawl might be included for a KAL. Thank you for posting that. I am going to go and grab the pattern now. The shawl has that pretty and delicate ruffle (just like the shawl Princess Kate wore last year when the media took a picture of her out grocery shopping). I have been looking everywhere for a shawl that looked just like this one. Thank you so much for the pattern link.

You're welcome! I was so happy to find it in Bernat's pattern offerings.
I will let you know when we start a knit-along for that shawl. I have several others going right now, so it will have to wait a little while.

Oh that would be great. I will make sure to check back. The shawl would be so nice for chilly fall evenings. The one pictured has such nice colors for autumn. The Bernat Mosaic Yarn really has so many nice colors to choose from it will be hard to make my mind up. The cardigan looks really nice too. Since that one is current, I think I will definitely try it. Much thanks again for taking the time to post all of these great ideas.

I really enjoy the mystery part of the KAL and CAL afghans. Since I both knit and crochet I would really appreciate the next Mystery Cal or Kal be one or the other. Maybe have a Mystery Cal in the spring and a Mystery Kal in the fall, or vica-versa. I barely finished my Cal this year and the Kal is still sitting there waiting for me to finish. Two afghans at the same time was just too much for me.

What really surprised and pleased me with the CAL project in general is the creativity of the finished product from the participants! I cannot wait to get started on the KAL on my own!
- I had to change the original layout design because my color choices just did not do well in the given layout. Preferrably, I would have liked a sneak peek at where the contrast vs. main colors would have gone, but it also gave my creative side a run for the money, oops, yarn!
- The guage was just not suitable for one sized hook for every design, so making the guage ahead of time was not necessarily the best use of time. Got over it, however, and kept working! I learned a new word, "frogging." Hillarious!
- Perhaps the initial notice from Bernat could include a "clue" about the type of design to be completed. For those who have not liked the laciness, it may have been good to give that hint. Won't stop me in the future, though. The diligence to keep working and looking forward to Wednesdays is something I already miss!
- Bernat designers, please proof by several people to eliminate the flaws in the instructions.
- Please add more colors to the Wavery line. It's great to work with!
- I look forward to the next project! Do I have to wait until next February?!

Even though we weren't told it would be a flower garden there had been something posted about the crochet version being feminine and the knit version being both. Maybe it was something buried in a forum and that was how it was overlooked?
I too learned the cool word of 'frogging' as it applies here. I use it way too often (too many mistakes) and my husband giggles every time and starts ribbitting!

Did you see they have 3 new families in the Waverly? They are kind of hidden and one family is not named (me thinks the website needs some maintenance). So Waverly now went from 28 to 49 colours! There is even a purple shade now! Even though I personally cannot stand the others in it's family. Wish someone would update the site to reflect the change and fix all the mistakes. Plus, for a Canadian site I am disappointed in all the American spelling going on! color should be colour. grrrr

You sound just like me with English grammar--tv commercials are THE worst. My DH is Canadian and I definitely respect the British spellings and interesting use of words--like "servette (not sure of the spelling), chesterfield, and boot of the car." We have lots of Canadian relatives in the Toronto area and like to visit whenever we have time.

There is maybe a glimmer of hope out there, except for the completely ridiculous use of the word "myself" that is so pervasive, it's maddening. There is a commercial poster in the school where I am taking a class on which the students have used magic marker to correct the incorrect use of our language! Challenging to be tolerant with the misuse of the language when we worked so hard to learn and use it correctly!
