I used to be able to say I never went anywhere! Over the last 6 years though that has slowly changed. My hubby and I spent one New Year's eve in the Dominican Republic (5 -6 years ago). We arrived at our resorts room right as the fireworks were going off! What a welcome! We had 2 weeks of sun and relaxation. Our first ever trip together - not even a honeymoon. All we did for 2 weeks was explore the resort we stayed at and one full day excursion - this was not an island you ventured far on your own.
It took nearly 5 more years before we had another vacation - this time to Disney World! We drove there - only a 22 hour drive if you do it straight, no stops! I used to think Disney was only for families. That unless you grew up going there you had no right to go alone. Boy was I wrong! We planned wrong though! We had it set up to go to a park every day for 7 days. Unless you are super fit, never ever ever do that! By the fifth day my feet were screaming at me! We also planned on going to whichever park had the magic hours so that added to our long days. I would never trade our trip for anything, but I would do it differently! This was nothing like our first vacation. The food and parks were above all my expectations.
Well, thanks to going to the World, I got the Disney bug, so when my brother said he was going on the Disney Fantasy and it was on our 13th anniversary last month I started looking into it too. We drove to get there - took us 3 days cuz we stopped every evening and were in no rush.
Now I have another cruise planned for August going out of New York this time on the Disney Magic, only an 8 hour drive! All girls trip too! I am sure after this cruise it will be another 5 or more years before we vacation again.

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

:hellogoodbye: I've been a widow for 30 years. When my husband was alive, we travelled Europe. Our best time was spent in Venice, Italy. What a magical city. I have also gone to Japan with a group from Rutgers, taken my middle daughter on a month- long birthday trip to all of Europe and visited most of the U.S. Now that I can no longer navigate too well, I can look at all my beautiful pictures and re-live it all. If you have the opportunity to travel, just go. Enjoy all you can. :D :D :D

I am a native Michiganian, and had always dreamed of going to Keweenaw Peninsula (in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.) So last summer my husband and I took our dream vacay to Copper Harbor, at the very tip of the Keweenaw. It has everything--mountains, the untamed furious beauty of Lake Superior, waterfalls to numerous too count, agate-strewn beaches, forests, lighthouses. Realized a dream of paddling Bete Grise Bay--conditions almost perfect--glassy water, light breezes. . .except that the deerflies were so ferocious that we had to cut the paddling short--cannot paddle and suffer flybites at same time. Flies were biting through my wetsuit. What a drag! :x So as a consolation prize we went the tourist route and took a sunset tour on a small tourboat, to Copper Harbor lighthouse, which is accessible only by water. The boat captain acted as tourguide on land and we had great tour of the lighthouse and keeper's cottages. Also got to see the original vein of copper that started the copper rush in the 1850's. We got to see a awe-inspiring sunset on trip back. (We could not have toured lighthouse and the surrounding area had we paddled to lighthouse.)
God is such an amazing artist. :cloud9:

Oh, thank YOU, Shandeh, for reading and enjoying my story. :D I will share advice I received from a local, that day on the beach of Bete Grise bay ~~ deerflies are at their worst in July, in that area.

This is not from a past travel but a future one, In fact, we are planning a road trip to U.S.A. for next summer. Heading southwest to Texas to see some relatives living there (we are aware that it is quite hot there in late July but we love hot weather), then a little further south to Corpus Christie or Galveston back to northeast either to Myrtle beach or Virginia Beach, and our last stop to Philadelphia to visit with our goddaughter and finally back home. I guess I will have a ton a photos and souvenirs when we return
