Learn to Crochet II - Baby Booties!

Now that we have learned the basics of crochet in our Learn to Crochet discussion, it's time for us to learn MORE!
We're gonna make some Baby Booties! :)

Booties are always a fun, quick project to make. And they can be saved to use for baby shower gifts, or can be given to charity.

To make your baby booties, you will need only one skein of Bernat Softee Baby yarn.

You will be able to make up to 12 sets of baby booties with this one skein!

You will also need a size G (4 mm) crochet hook.

The booties are constructed from the sole of the foot, eventually going from the center back, around the foot to the center back again. Then, they are seamed together down the back and through the center of the sole. Next, the strap is crocheted, then attached to the top of the bootie.

This means that we will need a good yarn needle for seaming. I really like the Chibi Tapestry Needle set, which contains two different sized yarn needles. The little tube stores the needles, and is easy to find in your tote bag. I have two of them - one in my bag, and another by my knit/crochet chair in my craft room.

When the booties are complete, you will need two buttons for latching the booties closed at the strap.
(Wait until your booties are finished before purchasing the buttons, so you can make sure they are not too small or too large for the buttonholes.)

In addition to learning how to seam, we will be learning to crochet in the back loops, work a dc3tog, and a dc5tog.

Who is ready to make some baby booties?

:inlove: I love the pacifiers. They finish the booties off. I like to collect anything craft related. I found a pair with balloon's on them. They're 19 years old. Easy to remember,( making things for our oldest grandson). Now I have to make a pair. You always come up with such beautiful things and great ideas. :bravo:

OK....I worked HARD to make some videos. I hope that these will help some of you with making your baby booties. :)

Since some of us are beginning crocheters, I think it's best to start with making the STRAP of the bootie first.

That video is about 20 minutes, so grab your lunch, and watch while you eat.

This video shows how to weave in the loose ends of yarn on the bootie strap.

This one is just 6 minutes long. Long enough for a cup of coffee, I guess. ;)

The rest of the videos will be loaded today or tomorrow. I thought I had them all loaded yesterday, but YouTube is fighting me. :tears:

I'm trying again right now, so stay tuned!

I finished the Bernat Crochet Baby Booties. I love this pattern. I have made a lot of them but this pattern is the easiest I have ever done. :D I finally used my 19 year old buttons. I think they work very well.
