I have been trying to make this afghan. It is gorgeous! However, I am having trouble with it. I have done and undone many times for the past couple of months. My edges :? do not look good .The pattern says to leave the first and last stitch unworked but it does not work or most likely I just don't get it. Could someone please help me? Thank you

Is this pattern from Around the Seasons Afghans?
I made this a couple years ago for my daughter!

Count your stitches
If I remember correctly, you want 8 before any increases or decreases. So at the end of the rows you want to count the 8 stitches. Once you have them, turn and start the next row.

If you need more help let me know and I will dig out my pattern and try a few rows to see if I can explain it better.

Thank you for your answer. One side you need 8 stitches the other side 9. What I don't understand is what do I do with the first and last stitches? I'm told to leave them unworked do I do a slip stitch?
I have contacted Bernat but so far I do not have an answer from them. I really appreciate your help.

You skip the stitch.
How many rows have you done so far?
It does feel odd skipping that stitch, and I remember the first time I did a zig zag I thought it was wrong too. Go for it, give it a try. It will work as long as you do what it says. Frogging is easy in crochet!
Take a photo of what you have done on the edge and maybe I can visually help a bit better.
PS: Frogging is fancy talk for ripping out (ribbit ribbit = rip it rip it)

I have been doing this on and off since March. I have been up to 18 or 19 rows and then the fact that the edges are not right gets to me and I undo everything. Right now I'm down to row 2. The pattern is easy and alternates between sc and miss one sc. The problem is that the rows end with ch1 miss next sc, sc in the next. I don't see how I can leave this last stitch unworked or how to skip a stitch. I am going to try and do what you told me and just count the and see what happens again.

Hello. I started the project again. I followed the instructions to a "t" and my edges still look weird. Both edges are slanted towards the centre of the work. The picture in the book showed the edges perfectly straight. How can I fix this ? Bernat has not answered my query, hopefully you can help. Following your advice I tried to include pictures of the endings, however, that proved to be too complicated. You were correct in thinking that the afghan is included in the Around the Seasons afghans book. I cannot skip any stitch because you need to sc, miss next ch all the way through. To leave the last stitch unworked that would mean I skip 2 stitches. I really am at a loss. I bought all the wool and I really like the colours and the look of it except for the messed up ends. I hope you can help me. Thanks

ok, let's see if I can help a bit more.
When you get to the end of the row, do not crochet anything into the very last stitch.
Turn your work with that stitch still undone.
Now do the first thing it asks (is it chain 1?) skip the usual space you would put the first sc, (which when it is a ch1 is the very same space), now work the pattern till you get to the end of the row and repeat these steps.
Take it one stitch at a time at the end of the rows, you will get it.

so, ignore last stitch in the row, turn, chain 1, single crochet in next space continue pattern. repeat

Thank you for your help I truly appreciate it but the last idea did not work either. I guess that I have to give it up, I 've been working on this on and off since March. This forum was my last resort I think I'm done. thank you so much.
