Is it this one:
http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=4733

5th rnd: Ch 3. *2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each of next 11 (3-2) dc. Rep from * to last 11 (3-2) dc. 2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each of last 10 (2-1) dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. 52 (60-64) dc.

The parentheses are there to help make different sizes.
This hat can be made in 3 sizes: To fit Preemie (6/12 mos-18 mos).
But on this hat the brackets make very little sense to adjust the sizes. I would be stumped too if I wanted to make it larger! Sorry to not be of any help here.

18 months. I don't understand what the numbers in the parentheses mean.

:hellogoodbye: I did the medium size last night. I did find some issues. I'll do the 18 month size today and try to help you. I find some of Bernat's patterns do have errors, but I can usually work them out.

For the 18 Month Hat, row 5, to just work it even in the round.

ch 3, dc in same space as chain.
* 1dc in each of the next 2dc. 2dc in the next dc. *
Repeat from * to*. 1dc in each of the last 2. sl st in top of the ch3. (64 dc)
After rnd.6 Do not do the next rnd. Do a dc in each dc for 7th rnd. You will need all 64 stitches.
After the 1st Edging row you should have 15sc and 15ch sps.
For the 2nd Edging row you need to start with the beg cluster. Omit the 1st line. Start with the ch 2.
After this the last row will work out ok. I hope this helps you and Please don't give up. After you get it, it will be much easier and it is a fun hat to work.

I enjoy crocheting and have learned thru the years that some patterns may have mistakes or I just don't understand what they are trying to get me to do. I just do the best I can to correct it so it still looks good and works. I hope you enjoy your hat. I'll post pictures of mine when I'm finished.

:hellogoodbye: Here is the 18 month one I finished. I'm pointing at the 7th row and the beginning cluster on the 1st row of edging. This really is a very fast and easy hat once you figure it out.

Row 5 is just wrong! in order to increase from 48 to 60 stitches you have to increase more than this. 2 dc in next then 3 in next 3 = 60
