Shandeh, those are beautiful birds! I esp love the bluebird. Does your mom do anything special to attract these beauties?

She works in her yard a lot, adding more flowers all the time. She also has a small vegetable garden. In addition, she has 4 apple trees, a pear tree, a muscadine vine, a grapevine, a blueberry bush, a walnut tree, and a pecan tree. I guess that's quite a smorgasbord for birds and other small creatures! :)

I tried one day to capture those elusive humming birds with my camera, sat there for hours in front of the feeder. Usually they are there every 30 seconds, not caring who or what is around. Not the day I get the tripod and camera out though. This is the best I got of one, fast little buggers they are.

Nice! I guess the birds were afraid of the tripod, since it was something new. But, I'm glad you were able to get that shot. :)

They kept perching on the camera and tripod when I was not there, sometimes they try to perch on me. I think they are just camera shy. I want to try again someday and catch one of the tiny little things perching.

shandeh, that garden sounds yummy, like a big beautiful salad waiting to happen! :D I can't blame the birds!
(By the way, is muscadine a type of grape, as in Muscat/Muscado?

Yes, a muscadine is a golden green grape, filled with sweet nectar. The skin is tough and bitter, though. Some people make muscadine wine, which is a dessert wine.

I just looked muscadines up on wikipedia, and as it turns out, my mom's are actually scuppernongs. (a large variety of muscadines). Here's a photo (the golden/green ones in the bowl):
