Nice! Keep us informed, so we can cheer you on! :D

I've started the last square for clue 1! Maybe I will actually finish this in time for my son's birthday in July. It'll be perfect since we're trying to make sure it'll fit with whatever color we paint his new room in the house we're having built, and we're supposed to be closing on the house on his birthday so he'll get to see his new room just a few days later (after the painters are finished). I just have to figure out what color to paint the room. His blanket is dark blue, bright red, bright orange, bright yellow, and bright green. I guess that's what comes of letting a 5 year old boy pick out the colors for his blanket

Oh, I bet it will be a wonderful blanket, with those bright, happy colors!

Re: Knit-Along Clue 3: Spoilers and Photos

Just as this KAL was getting started life kind of blew up. I had to move away from my home, I lost a family member, and I was diagnosed with a brain malformation. But I have not settled and I printed out all the clues and have started to work on this. And I'm keeping it secret!! I haven't looked the clues over. I've simply pulled them up and hit print and then immediately tucked them away so I wouldn't be tempted to look at them. I haven't looked at any photos or anything.

However.. I'm having the darndest time getting started! I can not figure out how to follow the first step. I knew how to once but now I can't remember. I've tried to look for videos and can't find anything. I have the very first cast on stitch but I'm lost after that. Horrible I know. But I'm not giving up! I WILL DO THIS! I'm not going to let my brain still my passion and enjoyment of knitting! But if anyone can maybe point me in the right direction I sure would be grateful!!

Congrats to everyone who has completed this project. And YAY for all those who are still working on it!! I'm glad to be in your company!
Peace and Blessings

Hi Nevermore!

I'm glad to see your motivation to overcome your obstacles in life. You are an inspiration!

Several knitters discussed the creation of their squares here in the Bernat Forum. If you avoid the discussions with spoilers and photos, you will never see photos - only discussions. Here is the discussion for Clue #1, to help you get started.

Hi Shandeh! Thank you!

Well honestly I can't even make sense of that thread. I think I'm going to have to find someone to sit and show me. What I'd really like is a video. Videos have been a life saver for me while I was teaching myself the basics and how to knit to begin with. But I can't find one for this. It seems it would be easy to find but nope.

If you're referring to the k1 p1 k1 all in one stitch, I had to see that on a video before I could figure it out. I found this one on YouTube, that I think shows it pretty well.
Good luck with it! :)

I looked at this one and to be honest it's too fuzzy on my screen I guess. Or maybe it's because it down it in the middle of piece. I don't know. But I think I'm just going to give up. I can't find a video for it that shows it like they say to do it. Every time I try to follow this either by reading it or watching the video you shared it doesn't work. I can't even get my needle though to stitch because it gets all bound up. It doesn't make sense. So I guess I learned my lesson. No knit-a-longs for me. I will just have to find something else to make with all this yarn I purchased.

Don't give up! The first row is the only difficult part of the entire square.
After that, it's smooth sailing.

I'm trying not too but it's so frustrating. Any other videos that might be out there that I simply can't find?

There is a section here on the KAL forums that says there are videos for every single step of this afghan. Am I over looking the one for the first step?
Here is where it says there are videos for each technique.

And here are the videos:

I've looked through the knitting section of the videos and all I see is the cable cast-on. Am I missing the one for this first technique/step?

Thank you for being so encouraging.

I want to go from :rainy: :idonno: to :knit: :cloud9:
Peace and Blessings

I made a few simple videos as well, but did not make one for Clue #1.

There were several people who were confused by that first row. Some people decided to just cast on 3 stitches, and skipped that difficult increase row. They said that their squares turned out just fine. So, that is an option.
