Yay! I finished adding a yellow border around all the squares that were given to me for my charity blankets.
Next, I connected them into strips, then seamed them together. Now, the blanket is almost complete. I just want to add one (or two) more border(s) around the entire blanket.

I knitt mittens for our local social services mitten tree where mitts are given to children in need. I also sew/knit/crochet preemie baby blankets for the Madison project started by one of my DDs. The project is to honor my granddaughter who spend her whole four months of life at sick kids. We take the blankets down on her birthday.

Your Charity Projects

Hi I would love to see work people do for charitable causes. I make hats for the babies at the local hospital. So far I have made over 60 baby hats. Here is a photo of some of them, I used Bernat baby sport yarn for these.

These last years have been difficult. My dear sweet ever supportive Mother passed away earlier this year following several years of illness. I often sat with her, crocheting away the sadness. My crochet mentor also left this earth, so I felt very much like a rudderless ship. I turned to crochet and after amassing more stuffed toys than my living room can handle, I donated them to the local Children's Hospital. They were so pleased to have received them. Their goal is to give each child a blanket or toy. By my estimation they serve over 500 kids a week (more for the NICU, hats & booties). So if you are looking for an outlet for your passion of crochet gifts (knitted & sewn gifts also well received) please consider a local hospital or charity.

Bernat has some easy chemo hat patterns.

I came across this yarn and pattern at the local Joann's, so I'm working away! This will go to the local Children's hospital cancer unit. I've got other caps and booties in the works (and toys & soon blankets) that will also go to the hospital. What a wonderful group of crafters we have here :bravo: .

Great advice! ;)
You can also look online for local groups who accept knitted and crocheted items. Or call your local shelters.

Have any of you been working on charity projects lately?

I'm finishing up some oddball triangle shawls, and giving them to my local hospice. I recently found out from a knitting friend that they need about 12 - 15 shawls a WEEK there. They give a shawl to each new patient, to comfort them during their last days. When they pass on, the shawl is given to the family, as a special remembrance. Such a worthy cause.

What are your favorite charities to knit or crochet for?
