I think this will be my next project! I'm thinking of using something like Bernat Super Value or Softee Chunky instead of the Satin. I will make it for my son who lives far from home. While his summer will be hot and humid, winter will be very cold, snowy and damp, and much longer than we have here. I like the "Guy" colors of this blanket and think it will be the perfect gift from Mom!

I was playing with the patterns tonight, and I love the simple Bobble Pattern, and the easy 1dc, 1sc pattern. These two patterns are used throughout, but I am thinking of making something more like a crochet sampler, with a different pattern/texture for each of the 7 colors.

In addition to those two, I like a crossed dc, and a blanket stitch with a repeat of 2dc, 1sc in the same space, skip 2 stitches.

Any suggestions for additional patterns that are in keeping with the ones used in the pattern? Does anyone think it will be too busy using several differnt patterns?

Well, this one seems easy enough. It's just big 11-inch squares of all the same stitch, joined as you go and worked in panels. Few color changes and the only seaming is to join the panels together. :)

Bernat also has a one-color granny square that I considered.

that is a lovely blanket! I really like the stitches they used, I didn't even know it was crochet. A stitch I like that is very simple and similar to those is just sc, half double crochet repeat. On the next row you put your sc into the hdc and the hdc into the sc below. I don't think it would be too busy to use different stitches and different colours together. The uniformity of the squares will bring it all together!

I made this afghan using Bernat Super Value yarn and it turned out beautifully. I love this pattern.

What colors did you use? I'm using a combination of Bernat Super Value and some other stash yarns that I have.
I discovered that I have quite a few colors in my stash that I like and that will work that are similar to the colors in the original pattern. However, in working with the pattern, I have discovered that I can get 2 blocks out of each ball, but there is not enough for the third. So to keep from having to try to find more of what I already have, I'm now thinking that instead of repeating 7 colors, I will use 10, making the first panel with 5 colors and the second with the other 5. Then I can repeat the two panels. I may have to buy a couple of balls but at least won't have to buy yarn for the entire blanket.

I'm still finding lots of stitch patterns that I like and playing around with those, but getting it down to my favorites, that create a closed pattern.
