Softee Baby - from the middle blanket

Postby Grandma2 » Mon Jul 09, 2012 10:48 am

I have just completed the "Softee Baby inside to outside" afghan.
I followed the pattern exactly. It is NOT square - it looks like a tent.
Has anyone else tried this, and what were your results ?
Thanks, Bev

Hi Bev,
Are you talking about this pattern?

I've never tried that blanket myself. Have you contacted Bernat Customer Support? (inquire@bernat.com)

I did, and the suggestion was "did you try blocking it?"
If I lay it flat, with the outer edges straight, it stands up about 8 inches in the centre.
As far as I can tell, blocking it just won't cut it. I don't think that increasing every alternate round is enough.
Maybe you have to increase more that alternate rounds. I don't know.
Give me a hint.

Oh well, maybe it's just something that happens with particular yarns or needle sizes. I haven't tried making it myself, so I can't offer any advice.

Update: I ripped the whole thing out and started again. Smaller needles in the very centre, increased more than suggested. So far, so good. still square, thank goodness.

Another week and it will be done - again ! ! !
