What is the next line?
I am pretty sure from my working on another project that in order to shape the heel you will need to turn your work around even though you have not gotten to the end of the row. Trust the instructions and do what they say. If you follow them I bet it will work out, even though it feels wrong. I am new to knitting also so I understand how easy it is to think something is wrong with the directions.

Hi Elaine!

Welcome to knitting, and welcome to the Bernat Forum! :)

You can certainly post questions here.
It also helps to send questions to Bernat Customer Support - inquire@bernat.com. They have direct contact with the original designers.

:knit: Shape Heel and Toe : Start with 47 stitches. Row 1: (RS) k-2, k-2tog. knit 17 sts. then, you will have the 5 sts in the center. ( k-2tog, k-1, k-2tog). then knit k-17 sts, to last 4. k-2tog, k-2. (43 sts) Row 2 knit (43 sts). Repeat row 1 with k-15 sts to center. then work the k-2tog, k-1, k-2tog. then knit 15 sts to last 4. (39 sts). Repeat row 2 Knit (39) sts. Repeat row 1 once more. work first 4 sts then, k-13 sts to center 5, work them, then work 13 sts to last 4. work them. I am new to knitting too. I hope this helps you. I wish Bernat would just give the stitches they want you to use and not make us try to figure them out. I just made this bootie to see if I could get it. As you can see, I make a lot of notes to help in the future. This is what mine looks like so far. How is yours coming?

:knit: I have to have clear instructions or I might not be able to make it again. I'm still trying to concentrate on what stitches to make. It would be a lot easier if Bernat gave better instructions, at least for the beginners. I have notes all over these papers. :D Just trying to keep up with each stitch and each set of instructions is a lot to take in. :reading:

Thanks for your help this makes alot more sense to me. I did finish the booties and they do look like yours. I do agree with you they should give the stitches and not have us guess.
