Design Your Own Blanket!

I feel your pain!!! I decided from now on I'm doing all the weaving in as I go along. I think that's the most discouraging part of motif blankets. What will be the dimensions of the blanket? It is so beautiful and I love the colors.

I have always done the end-weaving as I go--can't face so much mess at the end. Now I only have to weave in the sewing ends and I am making it like a jigsaw puzzle so I "maze" my way around to have fewer ends. I am glad you like the colors--can't wait to see it on our bed. I may have to wait until cooler weather to finish the border. I think I forgot to mention that it is king-size! I have almost finished seaming all the outside areas that include the triangles; I will begin working on the middle very soon!

I think I'm going to do half octagons with both blankets.

That should be very interesting--send pics when you get them!!!

Sorry to read about your garden. Mine is awful this year too. So discouraging. All that expense and water. So sad. And so sorry to hear about your kitchen escapade and like Sandy, good to hear you weren't hurt. And I love the new front on the oven door. What a clever idea!

Sorry to hear about your garden also. We have some friends who told us we planted on the wrong side of the moon so, just to cover all bases, I am going to buy an almanac if we decide to plant veggies next year. I got really lucky with the fall from the ladder--could have injured either or both of my artifical hips!!! As it was, the damage was all to the oven door and my pride!!! I like the oven door more every time I go into the kitchen--it is a major improvement!!!!

Wow, both hips are artificial? How long have you had them? Do they hinder you at all. I'm asking because I have arthritis in my right hip and it is so painful. Use to be painful just sometimes and now, just moving (not lifting) causes lots of pain.

I look forward to seeing pics of your beautiful blanket, but I understand about waiting for cooler weather. My blanket will be a throw, so much much smaller than yours.

I have wanted to do some painting, but Dh is talking about hiring someone to do it. But I'd rather do it myself. So we'll see. I think the plan is to do it next year so we've got some time to think about it.

I will post a pic of a couple of motifs with the half motif so you can see it.

it's great having you all here, to make blankets with me.

I'm finishing up two large charity blankets, which were worked on by several knitting friends in the Knitting Help Forum. As soon as I cast those off, I need to make some progress on a blanket for my son. THEN, I need to finish up my Waverly Mystery blanket. I'm so overloaded with blankets in progress. It's just ridiculous.

Wow, Shandeh!!! You are a busy woman!!! I don't know how you do it and keep up with the forums as well. Would love to see pics of what you're working on if/when you have some time to do that.

Here's a picture of the African Motif I'm working on with the half motif.

But now after thinking about it I may do a different layout and might not need the half motif. I guess the way it turns out will be a surprise to me as well. hee hee!!!

Haven't blocked the motifs yet.

OK, I am a really bad person--I got so wrapped up in my oven door that I completely missed this post!!!! Ten lashes with an untucked yarn end for me!!!!

You are actually MUCH busier than I am--how do you manage to keep all those projects straight???? I can do two at one time, but 4 blankets is incredible. We will share the dias with the band and the medal presentations!!!!

Don't laugh, but there are two other blankets in progress as well. But, they've wating for years. I keep all my projects in baskets and bags, and grab what interests me. I think I have about 25 things in progress now. I wonder if I will ever finish them all?

I LOVE these--they will certainly brighten any room!!!! I would be willing to bet that the triangles I used would fill in the spaces around the outside edges of your octogons. I found the pattern on Ravelry--Half Granny Squares.

I had both hips done in 2003 (left in Jan. and right in Nov.) and I really waited much too long to have the first one done--needed a cane to walk and was in constant pain, couldn't sleep, etc. Having the replacement was the best thing I ever did for myself so I did not wait for the second to get that bad. Mine are ceramic and titanium--should last lots longer than metal and plastic ones and I am allowed to do anything except running sports--like there's a chance of that anyway. With both of them, I went into the hospital on Monday morning and was home for lunch on Wednesday, no physical therapy, just exercises at home, walked with half weight the day of surgery. I have 3 inch scars that you have to hunt to see--the miracles of modern medicine!!!!

I have both ends of my blanket rolled and am working on seaming the middle. My DH always asks how many more I have to do and I always tell him that I don't know because I refuse to count--too depressing--I just sew one section at a time and suddenly it is finished--surprise!!!!!

Good luck with your painting--like you, I want to do it myself. With a year, you have lots of time to convince DH that you can do it your way and plenty of time to choose just the perfect colors.

I am working on another OLD project with granny squares--will post a pic soon. Did you create your own pattern for your African motifs? I really love them. Keep stitching (and tucking)!!!!

WOW!!!! And I just thought I had a lot going at one time!!! You definitely get the medal for this one. I do understand about working on the project that interests you at the time--great way to work and not get bored. Hang in there, I''ll bet you do finish every one of them.

While going through some patterns, I came across a star afghan and remembered the one you made. If you can do that, you can complete anything!!!!!!! I am still impressed with it!!!!
