Crochet Dog Coat

I'm working on the Bernat Super Value Crochet Dog Coat pattern and I'm stuck....

What does "Work 1 row even in pat" and "Pat across 7 stitches" mean?

Are you talking about THIS pattern?

Working "even in pat" means to continue working the rows as they were already worked previously in the pattern.
This will keep the design consistent throughout the project.

If it's any consolation, I'm having problems with the pattern too. I too am making the dog pattern size M. Got to the increase of 69 sts. Then it said work 1 row even in pat. Next row was leg openings I only have about 13 rows completed. This is not enough to start the leg openings. Am I missing something??? Where are you with the coat? Are you farther along?
