Blocking a baby blanket

Postby blankie » Tue Sep 25, 2012 11:53 pm

Hello, I was told that after a blanket is finished that it needs to be squared.
I understood this to mean that it is to be washed, and then laid flat to dry (or something like that).
Can anyone explain how they "square up" a completed baby blanket.
Thanks.

You might be referring to "blocked" instead of "squared".
It's totally up to you if you want to block your blanket. Some people just leave the blanket as it is when they finish the knitting or crochet work. You'll find lots of blocking techniques on the internet.

The simplest blocking method is just getting it damp, then laying it out on some towels, pinning it out the way you want it to be. Don't stretch it out. Just make it even. Then, leave it to air dry. Another way is to lay it out dry, pin it, then lay damp towels on top of it. Then, let it dry.

Thank you, for your response. It doesn't seem too difficult and I hear that the blankets always look
much better when blocked.
