Crochet Help on Softee Chunky - Reversible Scarf

I am having an issue understanding the beginning of this pattern.
http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=5516

I have completed the ch 19 and the first row, which is correct, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out the second row. I have done it 3 ways and none of them are correct. (slapping my head) Please, someone smarter than me, help!!!

With A, ch 19.
1st row: 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as hdc). *Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 hdc in next ch. Rep from * to end of chain. Join B. Turn.
2nd row: With B, ch 1. 1 sc in first hdc. *Working behind ch-1 sp, 1 dc in next missed ch of foundation ch. 1 sc in next hdc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.

Hard to explain, would be easier to show how it is done. Please excuse any punctuation, spelling or other typing errors. :) Here goes, you will be working behind the stitches that you just finished in previous row. Kind of like working on the back side of the scarf because you are setting up the row to start your front post stitchs on row 3. So with the right side facing you , do the first part of the directions then with your hook go behind (back side) of your work and put the stitch in the skipped chain of your foundation row on the back side. This will give the look of the double crochet on the back side or wrong side of the scarf so at the end of row 2 when you turn you will see all the double crochet on the right side of the scarf (facing you) and then you will be doing the front post double crochet in each of those which gives you the ridge effect on the scarf. Not sure if this will help but I hope so. You could also go to crochet sites and type in front post double crochet (fpdc) and there might be a video that will show you how it should look and how to get it started.

The start of row two is simple enough; you are just doing a ch 1 and single crochet. Your next stitch is a double crochet done in the skipped chain of your foundation row; and you are placing your hook behind the chain one space between your hdc of row one. When you are done with the row, the top of the dc should basically be even with your sc; as this looks like this is the start of the "waffle" pattern of the scarf. Hope this helps.
