Quick Slippers KAL

Postby Shandeh » Fri Oct 26, 2012 10:23 pm

The weather is getting cooler, and my feet are too!
I really NEED some slippers, to keep my feet warmer.

There are lots of great free patterns on the Bernat website for slippers, including this one for beginning knitters. (click the photo for the free pattern)

HOW-TO VIDEOS FOR OUR PROJECT

These slippers are just like the ones I used to make when I first started knitting. They are quick, and fun to make. And the best part? They are made with WORSTED WEIGHT YARN! Everyone should have some of that in their stash.

Who else wants to make some slippers? If you are just learning to knit, this will be a great way to practice the knit stitch.

WOW....This will be great to try. I took a "Learn to knit in an hour" class at a fiber fair in Cambridge MN on Oct. 13th and I am working on scarf #2 now, it has been exciting.

This project will have to wait for a bit. I printed the pattern out and realized that I do not have the size needles called for.

Bummer! I hope you find the right size knitting needles soon, my friend. It would be wonderful to make these slippers together. :)

Last night, I gathered together several different scraps of worsted weight yarn, and a set of wooden size 10 knitting needles.

I also found enough of one skein of worsted teal yarn to use as the main color for my slippers.

To get started on my slippers, I took the small scraps, and split each color into two equal sections. This way, I will have enough of each color for both slippers, making them pretty much match each other.

Then, I got started knitting. I held one strand of teal yarn, and one strand of a scrap together, and cast on. When a scrap ran out, I tied on another scrap, and kept going. Now, my work is coming together nicely, and the slippers will have a nice, tweedy, striped look to them. :)

I do have size 10.5 needles, would I be able to use them or will it make the slipper too big?? I am very new at knitting. :idonno:

I bet those needles will work just fine! If the slippers are a little loose, you can just wear thick socks under them.

I finished one slipper! Now, I'm going to start the second slipper, and make some videos, to show how it's made with scrap yarn.
