Knit Socks Pattern - NEED Help

I am a fairly new knitter (crochet has been my forte). I am also left handed...........don't stop I still need your help.

I am attempting to make Bernat Sox Socks and am using only one color of a variegated yarn.

I have gotten to the Make Heel portion and that is going ok. I am now at the Shape Heel portion of the pattern.
I have knitted the heel the 2 1/2 inches NOW it is time to shape the heel.

Pattern reads: Shape Heel: 1st row: P18 (for the size I am making) P2tog. P1. Turn. THIS is where I am stuck.

What in the world do I do with the other 13 stitches I have on the other needle for the heel?

2nd Row K3. Sl1. K1. PSSO. K1 Turn ======= This only deals with 7 stitches. I am really getting confused now.

3rd Row P4, P2tog, P1. Turn............Once again only 7 stitches being dealt with..........

4th Row K5, Sl1. K1. PSSO. K1. Turn. Now we are dealing with 9 stitches it seems to me.

Pattern reads continue in same manner to 19 stitches.

I hope someone is willing to walk me through this part of this pattern as I really want to learn to knit socks and at the time the pattern did not seem hard..........

I thank any and all of you who are willing to help a left handed knitter out. I am knitting the pattern as written - my socks will just be a mirror image of what they are supposed to be. I am not trying to rewrite or adjust the pattern for a left handed knitter.

Hi there! And welcome to sock knitting!

I remember the first time I knit a sock. It was SO EXCITING TO MAKE THE HEEL!!!

First of all....trust the pattern.
When it says to turn, just go ahead and do it.
Don't worry about the rest of the stitches on the needle. Just leave them there. You will come back to them soon.

When you made the 2.5 inch heel earlier, that was the back of your heel. If you look at a sock, you will see that part, going straight down the back of the sock.

Now, you are making the CURVE of the heel, so you will be making it more narrow, and the sides are curving in a bit.

You can do it!

Thank you so much. Because I had the time today and had not gotten any replies 0K I admit it I am impatient often......so I actually did what you recommended and it actually looks a heel well almost a heel. I looked up online how to pickup stitches.............so one side of that is done and I have moved to the instep - following the directions I promise (LOL) Tomorrow will see me picking up stitches on the other side then continue on in the pattern. I really appreciate your help and the link.

I am also having a problem with this pattern. I have made my heel and am now trying to shape it. The pattern says to:
Row 1 Purl 16, P2tg, P1, turn
Row 2 K3, S1, K1, psso, K1, turn
Row 3 P4, P2tg, P1, turn
Row 4 K5, S1, K1, psso, K1, turn
Cont in same manner to 17 sts.

I have done these 4 rows. I do not have enough stitches to repeat from Row 1. Also, by decreasing 4 stitches each time through, you cannot get from 31 to 17 stitches. Please help, I'm confused.
