Alpaca Wrist warmers

Has anyone knit these? I got to the second round of cable, and rather than looking like it's woven, which is what the photo implies, it's more like tire tracks thru the snow, like an S. Any thoughts? I love the yarn, and I'd love to complete these. Thanks!!
