How do you do the long-tail cast on method? i'm doing something wrong and can't figure it out. I end up with the yarn from the index finger wrapping around the needle along with the yarn from the thumb.

Here's the video I made, which shows 3 different cast on methods. The long tail cast on is the last part of the video, so just be patient through the first part.

When you do the long tail cast on, you will have four strands of yarn in a "slingshot" formation in your left hand. Your right needle will work to the LEFT of the first strand, then the RIGHT of the third strand, then IN BETWEEN the first and second strand. Then, you will drop the two strands from your left thumb, and tighten it up.

I forgot to go back through the thumb yarns.
I'm making dishcloths that have animals in the center. The animals are knit stitch and area around the animals is purled and then there is a knit border around the whole thing.

I'm using a variagated yarn first. Then if I like them I'll go with a solid color. The first one is a frog.
