Quick Slippers CAL

Postby Shandeh » Tue Jan 01, 2013 4:55 pm

Hello there! :hellogoodbye:
It's time for another fun, quick CAL!

Since we already had a knit-along for slippers, it's time to make Slippers in crochet.
For our project, you will need two skeins of the new version of Bernat Softee Chunky, which works to a gauge of 11 stitches for 4 inches.
(The older version of this yarn will not work for these slippers.)

I'll be using the color "Teal Twists" for my slippers. I was so happy to find a BIG BALL of the yarn at my local craft store! :D

I made 6 pairs of this pattern for my young nieces, nephew & grandkids modifying the pattern for the smaller size. I love the new chunky yarn and this pattern works up fast. The only downside to this is pattern is that it doesn't stay on the kids feet well. So I ran a length of elastic thread around the top to snug up the fit.

Oh yay! I'm so glad you posted! Maybe you can help some of us out as we make our slippers!

I started my first slipper last night. This is the second time I've attempted working in the round, and I have a quick question. After I join in the round and chain one, do I work the first SC in the same spot where I slipped in to join?

Did you read the label of your yarn ball Shandeh? I have those same large balls and mine are all the old chunky gauge.

I always have to count my stitches to figure out where to do that first stitch! Sad, but I can never remember where it has to go, so I usually count backwards and figure out where to put the first stitch that way. I love patterns that include a stitch count per row! 1 day I might be able to do it without all the extra maths!

Hi karenarp! Yeah, it's the right yarn. The label says it is new and works to 11 sts per 4 inches. ;)

I am working the first SC into the same spot where i joined from the previous row. We will see how it turns out.

I finished one of my slippers last week, and it was loose at the top, just like Patty mentioned.
So, I added another round of crochet around the top, doing some SC2tog occasionally. Now, it fits a bit better. Photos soon!

I tried to post a photo of my slipper, but it's not working well right now.
(I've turned off Java, since the US Homeland Security has advised it.)
Stay tuned for a photo soon!

I still need to weave in the ends on my slipper. And I'm ready to make the second one. But, I AM SUCH A SLOW CROCHETER RIGHT NOW!!! The holidays really wiped me out this year, and I'm still trying to get my knit/crochet mojo going again.

My plan is to make a video of how to make this slipper, using a solid, light shade of Softee Chunky, so you can see the stitches being formed. The ombre shade I used to make my slipper would not video well at all.

I'll try to make the slippers. I never made anything like that before. I did the CAL blanket last year and I am looking forward to doing another this year if they have one. In the meantime, I will stretch my crocheting skills and try something that I have never attempted before. I just hope that I am able to do something like this, I have never made anything wearable before.

Cool! I think you will enjoy making these slippers. They are quick with the new version of Softee Chunky.
