Introduce Yourself!

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

Hi. I'm living in Green River , Wyoming. We just came out of a deep freeze- not much snow though ,which is good and bad. I like the idea of purple to purple (using the Toronto based thermometer) So I am going back to Jan 1.
I am going to experiment with a couple of stitches-
Haven't decided to use one or make this a stitch sampler as well- must take into account that it will be 52 rows, but most of the scarves I make are 60 " so it shouldn't be a real issue.
Now off to get the temperatures for the past 3 weeks, oh, I plan on using the daily high------

Hiya!

I have returned from NOT completing last year's mystery afghan CAL! This scarf idea is awesome and I'm so undecided on how I want to do it. I live in Kitchener, Ontario and I think I will base my scarf on this city. While it is Canada, so a broad range of temperature changes, I foresee needing to break down the ranges even further to avoid several weeks in the same colour. I also thought about doing another city, something remote that no one would think of.

I already own 7 colours of Bernat Satin, and I like the idea of using that yarn (also to cut down on my cost) but I'm thinking about doing 5 degree temp ranges. Since this city hasn't dipped below -20 in a few years, I thought I'd make that my low point, with 40 as my highest. So I need 5 more colours if I want to stick with my 5 degree range.

I'm also going to try to do the "feels like" temperature, as we are very prone to wind chills and humidex. On the other hand, since the temp can change a lot within one day, I was toying with the idea of doing a day temp and a night temp. I know doing that would end up doubling the length of my scarf though. Oh, I'm also going to go back and start from Jan 1st.

I don't know, so many ideas and decisions to make!

EDIT: After doing some figuring, I've decided to go with the 6 degree range in the example, but add one in the cold, and with windchills it can feel like -17 some days. I pretty much already have all the inbetween colours, just have to pick up a red and purple for the ends and figure out where my existing colours will go in the middle. YAY! I'm excited!

I am returning from completing three of the Mystery CALs. The mystery of each week was so much fun that I looked forward with great anticipation to what 2013 would bring. I think this will still have an air of mystery about it since we don't know exactly what the temperatures will be in the days ahead.

I live in Cary, NC and will be doing this one in Bernat Satin. I will follow the suggested colors and ranges, though I suspect I will need to adjust the ranges a bit. I will be starting mine with Jan. 1st temps, although we had an unusual warm period the beginning of the year.

I have been crocheting for about 2 years and knitting for 5, though with two little ones at home crocheting usually wins out. It will this time as well.

If history is any indicator I will be doing multiples of this scarf to give as gifts and might try using some of the other yarns in the Bernat portfolio.

I look forward to seeing all the progress made with my scarf as well as everyone else on the Forum! :hellogoodbye:

This is my first ever crochet along, so I'm very excited! I live in central Missouri and will do the weather here. I plan on doing the color for the temps that I wake up to every day? Five mornings a week I get up at 4 a.m. to run or go to the gym. As a result, I pay very close attention to what the temps are at that time. I'm super excited about that and just might make one for myself and one for my running buddy!

Hi, I'm Sharon and I retired about 5 years ago. I am primarily a quilter, but I love to knit too. This project will be a perfect gift for my grandson. He loves strange things and this surely fits the bill!!! He lives in Dallas, PA, near Wilkes-Barre. Now to do some research on temperature.

I live in a desert climate where the evening is much colder than the day (Ex. yesterday’s temp was 70º F in the morning and 38º F in the evening). Anyone have any suggestions on how best to represent this pattern? :idonno: I don’t think averages would best reflect the weather conditions here. Thanks!

Oh, and this is my first CAL, and I'm excited to be participating! I'm doing the weather where I live, but I like the idea of doing one for some random place or a place where I'd like to visit. We'll see how it goes! Good luck to everyone!

HI, I am so excited about this project. I am going to be doing the temperature for Gresham Oregon, from October 15 2011, to October 15, 2012. I choose this date range because I think it would be neat to document our first year of marriage in this way. If i cant get the average daily temps i might just do this years. Also I think i might crochet a blanket, not a scarf.

This January I started a similar project. The original idea was a sky scarf. Instead of temperature ranges, the scarf reflects the color of the sky at midday. Someone else used the idea with an afghan of color blocks. I'm making an afghan using bulky yarns from my stash in rows. Four days equals one row in the afghan, so there are color changes in the rows. I lucked out with four days of blue sky followed by four days of clouds & rain, so the border turned out well.
OK if I follow along with them temp scarf while I work on my sky afghan? They are similar in concept.
The hardest part - doing it one day at a time.
I've completed 3 CAL blankets & love the companionship of everyone working on a project at the same time.

Hi, I'm Kathy and I live in Central Massachusetts. This past December I celebrated being married for 25 years, I have 2 grown son's, 2 step son's, 2 beautiful daughter-in-laws, 2 beautiful grand-daughter's, 2 handsome grandson's ages ranging from 1 yr, 4 yr, 7 yr, & 14 yr old. This will be my second year doing a CAL. I also plan on doing the KAL so I can give a scarf to my sister (she doesn't knit or crochet...she was the Tom-Boy so she never learned from our Mother) I ordered the yarn and hope I picked enough for both or I'll have to just buy more.
I live in an area that has all 4 seasons! We get snow, rain, sunshine, clouds, blizzards, ice, sleet, and wind! We have temps ranging from frigid lows of teens to 20's (this week we have someday's in single digits) with highs in the 30's, 40's in the winter. Fall weather is in the 60's to 40's for the highs and lows range 30's to 40's, Spring is not to bad in the 40's, 50's, 60's for the highs and lows 30's, 40's, & 50's. Summer which is my favorite time of year highs are about 70's - 80's with lows of 50's - 60's...if lucky we get temps in the 90's. With these kinds of temps I'm bound to have a colorful scarf. I plan on using the colors suggested on the temp gauge but adding snow white for the days we have snow, blizzards, sleet, & ice, and I am using Denim Mist Heather for the raining cloudy days. I can't wait to get started on this project and meet new crafting friends.

I'm Celeste, from the Sandhills area of NC. I am going back to January 1st and start with the temps from there (thanks WeatherUnderground!). I am using colors similar to the example, but adjusting the scale so the color representing the highest temps will be for 95+ degree days. We do get quite a few of those in the summer. I may not be able to knit each day, but I'm keeping track of the highs so I can do catch-up knitting in the weekends!
