Introduce Yourself!

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

My name is Becca and I homeschool my four children. I've been crocheting since the age of nine, and just last year taught myself how to knit. Since I'm still new to knitting, I've decided to practice that all year long for this scarf. Also I decided to use last year's temps to make this scarf more of an heirloom, because of our big move across the country last summer; we moved from Chicago, IL to Boise, ID. So Jan-Jun will be Chicago temps and Jul-Dec will be Boise temps. I will be using 10 different colors, following the colors of the rainbow

Hi, my name is Becky and I am really excited about this kal. This will be my first one on this site but I think it will be my favorite scarf. I live in the Charlotte NC area and I think I will just stick to that. I am going to do the high for each day and start back on Jan 1 so it will be a full year. I am not sure what my colors are going to be yet, I am going to go online and look around at the yarn sale. I would like something really colorful so I might have to break down my temp ranges. It can get really hot here in the summer and I don't want a solid block color in the middle. However it would show some of the crazy temps we have been getting here.... :idonno: Idk a lot to figure out. I can't wait! :knit:

Going to be doing this for my hometown - the closest (regularly updated) weather station is Quantico VA. I'll be using 12 colors with a black border - and knitting different stitches for the different weather conditions. hopefully I'll be able to keep up since it's only two rows a day on average - even with my busy schedule!
fun fun!

I love reading everyone's stories! :hellogoodbye:

My name is Sandy, and I'm the forum moderator for Bernat. I also write the "Community Updates" on the Bernat Blog.

I live in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, and will make my scarf based on low and high temps here. We have a big range of temps here, so I'm using LOTS of colors. I've chosen Bernat Denimstyle as my yarn, and plan on using all 13 colors of it. :) My favorite thing about that yarn is that the colors all look "cloudy". PERFECT for a "weather" scarf.

The lightest shade will represent Snow. The gray yarn will be used for rainy days. And the black will be for lightning! I will cast on more stitches than the pattern lists, because I want mine to be a wrap. I have enough scarves.

Hi, :hellogoodbye: My name is Dorothy. I live in Virginia, but I decided to do the scarf for the high temperature for Dublin, Ireland.Ireland is one of the places that I would most love to visit one of these days if I ever strike it rich with the lottery. So this will be a "dream scarf". :cloud9: I am trying think of a way to incorporate the snowy days and the rainy days as I would like to see how that would be for a year. Although trying to incorporate the weather and the temps could be a bit complicated. :hrmm: Have to think on that.

I really like Sandy's idea of making a wrap instead of a scarf. I think that would be so pretty. I plan on doing the KAL since I am a beginning knitter I should be able to keep up and complete this one. I have tried so many other KAL's at Ravelery that I end up quitting because I get so lost and just give up. Ugh! Really looking forward to doing this. The idea of a "temperature" scarf is really interesting. Anxious to see everyone's. All of them will be beautiful! Wishing everyone happy crochet and happy knitting!

Hi. :hellogoodbye: My name is Kari. I live in North Dakota and have decided to use the high temps here. This is the first CAL/KAL I've participated in. I'm really excited to see how everyone's scarf and/or shawls come along. I've been crocheting since I was 5, and just getting started with knitting. I haven't decided which way I'm going to go with this project. :hrmm:

I'm a first-time mom to a little 5 1/2 month year old boy. I haven't decided if I'm going to make a scarf or a blanket for my little one. :idonno:

It's really nice to meet all of you and I can't wait to get to know and talk to you all more.

Good Luck & Have Fun Everyone!!!

I'm from Long Island. I look forward to creating three of these scarves-one for my daughter in Ohio, one for my Albany girl and one for my daughter who lives locally to commemorate the birth of her son. I loved doing the last CAL...great community. Cool Dr Who reference. :D

Hi, my name is Nelliebean. I love the idea of this KAL! This will be my first one.

I grew up in Maryland, but have lived in the Central Valley area of California since 1996, and I will be knitting my scarf for those temps - gonna have a lot of warm colors!

I haven't decided between a cowl or a scarf, but I will use a DK weight, or maybe a laceweight, seeing as there's 365x2 rows at least. :knit: I've been thinking of design, and I'm undecided as to whether (pun not intended) to go with an allover lace, or short rows, or slip stitch. Decisions, decisions. :hrmm:

This is gonna be alot of fun! Thanks Bernat.

Question: Are we then going to use these scarves as a demonstration of global warming and climate change? :D

UPDATE: Since we knit 2 rows for each day, I've decided to use both the actual high and low temp. This should mix up the colors nicely - gonna be lively striping! :D

Hi! I'm from Beaverton, Oregon and this is my first KAL/CAL. I learned to crochet back in Jr. High, but I haven't done a CAL before because I usually don't have the time to keep up, so I'm really excited to be able to join this one. I'm using yarn from my stash, and going with a rainbow color scheme and white borders. It's going to be really interesting to see how everyone's projects turn out. :)

Hi I am Sam. I taught myself to knit when I was ill for a long time. As I recovered I loved knitting more and more! I knit every day, every where. This is my first kal and I think it is going to be fun! I just now looked up the climate for my city, Virginia Beach, and will map out my colors today. I think I will have a nice variety because our weather here pretty much stretches across the entire temperature range. Well the plus side of it anyway! I will also consider the ocean and beach, and the bay when choosing my colors.
