Welcome and FAQ

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

I think my wrap is going to be RIDICULOUSLY long. I might end up making two 6 month wraps.
The reason mine will be long is because I'm doing the Low AND High temps each day....and I'm adding an extra two rows to show rain, snow, or lightning as it happens. I know....I'm goofy. :? Or, maybe I'm just a GEEK! :ugeek:

Regarding scarf length - the most important thing is to trust your own gauge. If you notice that the finished project will be too long for your liking, modify to pattern to work for you (do 1 row instead of 2, skip the border, change your stitch, etc.)

I'll have to check with the designer to get the expected finished scarf lengths when I get into the office on Monday. I believe it was 90 inches but I'll have to double-check. That is long for a scarf, but not oh-my-gosh-i'm-drowning-in-scarf long.

I am very excited for this CAL/KAL!

I am wondering....is anyone considering making a temperature afghan as opposed to a scarf? I am not much of a scarf wearer. I don't want to get myself in too deep though with immensely long rows though.... :crown:

Hi Lauren!
What if you make a square for each month and then seam them together in the end? Then you dont' have to worry about having to knit those long rows!

Ooooo...that's a great idea! I would love to see a Temperature Blanket like that! Every square will be a little different, and when the 12 squares are seamed together, they would look so cool!

This sounds like a very cool idea! If you are crocheting, you could put a row of sc in your border color around each square. It would make it easier to seam if each square had the same number of sc's to match up. Not sure what you would do if knitting. I wasn't too thrilled about the scarf because of the length. Even at the 90 inches mentioned by Jen above, that would be "oh-my-gosh-i'm-drowning-in-scarf long" for someone just a hair over 5 feet!

With the squares, you would still have a pretty gi-normous blanket......I know......i just made one with 20- 12 inch squares in the fall, and it was huge! Each square was about 30 rows, but it was done with a nice fluffy 4-ply yarn. So I would think you would want to use something lighter weight.

I just made myself a template in Photoshop Elements! For now, each stripe is .25" and I have a .5 inch border of black between every month and 1" of black on the beginning and end. My actual gauge will be smaller, I'm sure because I am using fingering weight yarn. If it wasn't, the entire thing would be 98.75"! LOL! I'm tempted to find a way to stitch the names of the months in there as well as the year.

I am confused. Is it for every day of THIS year? And if it is--that will take all year. And if it is for a previous year--we are only stitching 2 rows per day in Feb??? Help. :-)

Yes, you knit 2 rows a day, every day of the year.
You can make your scarf start today, and look up the weather in your area for temps.
Or, you can look for weather history from January 1 of this year, and make your scarf reflect every day of 2013.
