Introduce Yourself!

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

Good afternoon! My name is Chawna. I live in Spokane Valley, WA, USA and I am super excited to do the CAL/KAL. I think I'm going to crochet a scarf for the city I live in and then KNIT one for another city. :) I have knitted long than I've crocheted, but I'm better at crocheting. With basic stitches, I think I can accomplish both.

Hello. My name is Dana from Denver. I am excited about this. Starting my year on Dec 29 which was the beginning of my 49th year. I have decided to do this for the temp where I ever I am so as I travel it will match that High/Low. I am keeping it simple with just one stitch and have a nice spreadsheet set up to track the temps until my yarn gets here. Think this will be fun and if it ends up being as much fun as I think it will be a great idea for friends/family members for key years for them.

This is my first CAL. I decided to try this one because it sounds so interesting. I've been crocheting for around six years and am self-taught. I set up a spreadsheet to assist with keeping track of this scarf throughout the year. I chose the colors for the scarf from a temperature legend I found on the Weather Channel. I will retrieve my data from the local National Weather Service for West Central Ohio.

Hello out there. My name is Andi, and I am currently in the process of getting a small craft community going where I live. I have always wanted to be a part of a CAL/KAL, but for some reason the "mystery" ones don't appeal to me. (I suppose I would like to know whether or not I am going to like the finished project before I spend time and money on it).

I live in Jacksonville, Florida and for the most part, we are warm. I found a website (wunderground.com) that tells you the high, low, and average temperatures for past days, so I am in the process of deciding whether or not I would like to do three rows for those numbers or stick to the two rows for the overall temperature... leaning more towards three though. I have it broken down like so:

Red - 96+
Orange - 86-95
Yellow - 80-85
Green - 70-79
Light Blue - 50-69
Dark(er) Blue - 33-49
Purple - --32

I guess this means that I should go through my yarns and see what colors I already have. I am definitely going to pass this on and see if maybe my group wants to participate and what kind of temperature gauge they are going to work on. Tips are appreciated!

Hey there! I'm Jessa from Windsor, ON. So excited for this project! It'll be unique for pretty much everyone, and I love the weather-- at one point I wanted to be a meteorologist. I think I'll probably knit this in garter stitch, although I may switch it up and do a seed stitch border. I've also toyed with the idea of doing different stitch patterns for months or seasons... :hrmm:
After looking through various climate charts for my area, I've decided to use the daily high temperatures for Windsor from accuweather, and use a range of 15 F to 95+ F. Now I just need to go out and find some orange yarn (oddly hard to find at my local craft stores), get some more light blue, and start it :D

PS, the idea of all of those ends to weave in kind of scared me, but I found links to the magic knot on ravelry, which seems like it could be pretty handy for this!

Hi :hellogoodbye: I am a retired nurse from South Carolina who loves to crochet. While we have pretty moderate temperatures most of the time, we often have winter and spring temperatures in the same week so this project will have interesting results. I am still working out my colors vs. temperature range. Looking forward to getting started and have already collected the info on the hi/lo temps from Jan. 1st through today.

I am Teresa living in Mississippi. I have decided to do 7 degree increments on the scarf, beginning with 25 degrees. I will only do the average temp for the day, so I don't think here there is much chance for below 25.
I am doing the Sheep(ish) yarn in these colors:

Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn Magenta(ish) 25-32 degrees
Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn Teal(ish)
Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn Turquoise(ish)
Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn Chartreuse(ish)
Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn Lime(ish)
Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn Yellow(ish)
Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn Coral(ish)
Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn Red(ish) 81-89 degrees
Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) Yarn White(ish) border color

I am planning on knitting the scarf, but considering changing up the pattern to do maybe plain garter stitch on sunny days and ribbed on rainy days. Haven't decided yet.
Life is more interesting when you're happy! KWH

Me, me, me!!! I do! :hellogoodbye: I rotate the projects that I am working on, usually having 3 or 4 going at once. My roommate, who is working on a knitted scarf right now, says I make her dizzy with all the stuff I do. (I do other crafts besides crocheting.) I think by rotating the projects though it helps me to keep from getting bored with them and not finishing them.

Just my $.02.

Hello All,
My name is Doris and I'm a retired newly-made Grandma. I am a counted cross stitch addict but I'm now ready to clean out the closet that holds all the yarn stash I inherited from my Mother many years ago. Since I crochet at a beginner's level, I thought this scarf CAL would be perfect! And If all goes well, I'll make more throughout the year and donate them to charity in time for next Christmas. I will base the colours on the the low temperatures for my area, which is Oakville, Ontario, Canada, where I live with my Hubby. I will be using your scale, because blues and greens are my favourite colours. :hellogoodbye:

Hello, :hellogoodbye:

My name is Amanda. I live on Long Island and I work with animals. I love crochet but animals have always been and will always be my #1 passion. My current job is working with a cat shelter and I have very minimal hours so I can be home. My husband and I live in the apartment at my grandpa's house and over the last year he has become unable to drive due to Alzheimer's. So I need to be home to take him and his wife to Dr. appointments, super market... etc. It's difficult to be out of the house long, as he falls occasionally and his wife is unable to pick him up. As much as I miss full time work... this gives me lots of time to crochet, run my facebook yarn group, read and spend quality time with my furry babies.

I'm very excited to do this scarf... I like that it is something I can work on slowly through the year. I have chosen my colors in Bernat Satin... just need to place the order. We have had a very odd winter (just like last year) so my January should be colorful. I plan to do one row for the high of the day and one for the low. Can't wait to get started!
