Scarf Length

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

Scarf Length

Here's a bit more information on the expected scarf length if you follow the pattern:

KNIT
Pattern gauge: With appropriate yarn and needles, Seed Stitch is approx. 9 rows/inch and the Garter Stitch border is approx. 8 rows/inch

Based on this, if you have correct gauge your knit scarf will be almost 99" long, including the border.

CROCHET
I'll be back to fill in the 'official' crochet gauge.

What to do if this is too long
If this length is too long for your liking, there are lots of things you can do!
Eliminate the border (that should cut off about 8 inches)
Do one row for each day instead of two (but make sure your scarf isn't TOO short!)

Are you planning any length modifications?

I'm a big girl, so I think I'll be fine with my very long scarf/wrap. :D

If the scarf is too long I may just sew it together to make an infinity scarf and wear it doubled.

I finished one week's worth of days on my scarf/wrap, and it measures about 5 inches. At this rate, my wrap will be over 230 inches long! HA HA HA

I think I will end up making two wraps, each for six month periods.

I love love this site and the story behind the original scarf!
http://www.doctorwhoscarf.com/
There is also a section on how to knit the edge and how to weave in the ends so they are hardly noticeable. If we weaved in the 2 ends every day as part of the daily task of adding to it, then the ends would not be a problem at all!
Thank you Jen for figuring out approximate length.

Ah.....thanks for a great link and a fun trip. My kids were great fans of his show, and I would watch with them sometimes.

I tried to convince Jen to include a Doctor Who joke in the original Blog post, but she wouldn't have any of it! I'm glad somebody else sees the humor in gargantuan scarves :D
