Introduce Yourself!

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

I currently live in upstate NY but we are trying to sell our house buy an Rv and travel for awhile maybe ending up in New Mexico so originally planned on nm but now thinking starting in Ny and than with any luck continue once we get on the road wherever we might be at the time. Now also deciding between scarf and Afghan. Was thinking of doing 12 squares with daily high low temp. for each using dk wt working on the math :hrmm: Any advice suggestions would be welcome. Look forward to reading about and seeing everyones progress

If you want to do a type of Granny Square, you can do 3 inch blocks. Finished size would be roughly 54X60. That is figuring on 20 rows of 18 squares, totaling 360 squares. You can even get creative with the square and do the high and low temp for each day so each square could be 2 different colors.

This is an interesting concept but there is no way I can work on 1 scarf for a year. I'm going to knit 7 rows per week based on the high temperature of each Sunday for the Coeur d'Alene area for 2012.

PS, the idea of all of those ends to weave in kind of scared me, but I found links to the magic knot on ravelry, which seems like it could be pretty handy for this!

Hi I'm from a small town outside Worcester, Massachusetts. I was debating about joining until I read this post from Ninjette... I checked out the magic knot idea that you mentioned and have decided to do the scarf... no ends to weave in!! I'll be using a temp scale much like the sample one... and with our variable weather I can see that as of today, January alone will have me using 5 colors. Going with one row per day to cut down on the length of the scarf.

Jasmine here, in Milwaukee WI. This'll be my first KAL, and I'm kindof excited. I think it's a really neat idea. The weather in the Midwest varies a LOT, so my scarf should be very colorful, and fun. Once I get my yarn (I just discovered this today), I'll probably go back to Jan 1st and catch up. Looking forward to following along with all of you.

Hello everyone,
I am Sharon from Iowa. I finished the CAL 2012 and only half of the KAL 2012 - still working on this. I crochet more than I knit so the knitting is taking longer. This sounds like fun since there are so many possibilities. I am going to crochet and work on making an afghan. Thinking to do 12 (1 for each month) strips and then join together. Still working out what stitch and the size. Need to order yarn so I can get started with Jan. 1st.

I'm Bev from Utah. I've participated in a Mood Scarf CAL before (and currently on Ravelry) but not a temperature scarf. I think this is a FANTASTIC idea. Since Bernat is my favorite yarn I'll have to go through my stash and see what I have that fits in with Utah's weather patterns.

:helpme: Ok so I really have to stop thinking about this because I keep coming up with more ideas. Just thought about a blanket for each of my kids for the temp. from the year they were born. Also one for my best friend of 44 years from the year we met. Do they have that info available :hrmm: ok I think I'll stop now and go knit. Haven't caught up yet on my wrap too much time online. That Internet can sure suck you in ;) :hellogoodbye:

Hi, I'm Lisa, known to my friends as LiLi. I work in the public sector (blah) and live in upstate NY. I love to crochet and was looking for a afghan CAL so I'm planning on converting the scarf idea to a year long afghan. I think I'll do high/low and maybe weather in between for my rows. Luckily I crochet short rows, but I haven't had the time yet to think of how many this will all be in the end and how long this will be. Perhaps it's about to be a king sized afghan. :)

The original idea is a great one. Thanks for the inspiration! :bravo:

Wow, you are an inspiration! I feel proud when I get on my elliptical machine in my warm little home. I cannot imagine running outside at 4 a.m. You deserve a medal! :notworthy:

What a wonderful idea! I've always wanted to go to Ireland as well. My ancestors came to Charleston, SC from Ballymoney, Ireland in 1772.
