Stitching Choices for your Temperature Scarf

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

I've decided to do a chevron scarf using the pattern I found here.

Based on what I have done so far (for January's color) my scarf will be somewhere around 118 inches long.

Ditto!! Her scarf came out really cool - I can't wait to see yours!

I have a question about beading and knitting....I know that I am going to do stockinette (keep it simple because of the beading). I have never worked with beading previously, I want to make sure I am getting the correct size....
I am using fingering weight yarn and size 6 beads look too big, size 11 would be too small, so I am going with a size 8.....
Anyone have any input/thoughts on that?

There are a lot of choices for stitches and also you have to consider length. I made January yesterday (I'm doing weather from 2012)using single crochet and an F hook. Well it was going to be shorter, maybe 6 feet but so tight that it was stiff and not soft). Took that out. Tried the pattern as written, and that didn't work well for me, it was hard to see the ch 1 spaces. So now I'm trying hdc,ch 1 and it is lighter and airier and I think will be great but also incredibly long, 200 inches...16 ft long! So I may make 2 half year scarves. Still experimenting with hook size.

Is it a K or C stitch?
My mom crochets, but I just never could get the stitches to even out. So I finally taught myself to knit :knit: using good ol' Youtube! It did however take me a year to figure out what they were talking about when the directions :reading: said to turn the work? I was knitting with both hands so I didn't need to turn it around LOL. It took the lady at our local yarn shop two visits from me to figure out what I was doing. I know how to purl now  I knit in one direction and I turn my work now. But you can find me cheating a bit every now and then when I am doing a blanket or something similar. ;)

Thanks for the help!
Selena

Hi Selena,
Linen stitch is knit. I cast on 36 stitches and am slipping the first stitch of every row and knitting the last, so 34 of the stitches are in linen stitch.

Wish I could help. I've never tried adding beads to my knitting, so I'm no help at all. Can't wait to see how yours comes together!

I hate when that happens. I sometimes have to try about 3 or 4 different hooks or needles to find which one is right for the yarn, and makes the best fabric.

No Worries! I am going to have to do some research on this.....

I went to a local beading store, and she was so very unhelpful not about this question but just in general when I asked about colors and availability :ire: . Suffice to say I won't be going there again. Back to looking online!

For this project, I was thinking, (utoh) knitting a row for the high of the day and a row for the low of the night. Using a seperation rows representing, the month in which these temps occured. Feb-pink Valentine's day. March- green st. Payrick's day. Ect...
This would make a great teaching tool, for kids. :geek:

The linen stitch looks neat. I am now contemplating the tiny herringbone stitch as well. Too many choices! My yarn should come in by the latest on Wednesday so hopefully I will be ready by then. ;) I am excited to see everyone's work
