Introduce Yourself!

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

This is my first CAL and first afghan! I am going to represent the low and high each day surrounded by a pale blue sky color. On the rare rainy days I picked a grey yarn for the outer edge.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of the beautiful variations you all post!

:hellogoodbye: Really like your idea of blue or grey for the outer part of the square. Thinking about granny squares for another temp. project. Will definitely keep that in mind.

So one evening when I was talking to my darling husband, he mentioned that it sounded kinda neat. He looked up the highs and lows for our area for last year and created a computer program that allows me to see how my scarf may look....

Cool! It's great that he is able to do that for you.

I'm Milk Donor Mama, I have three kids ages 6, 2.5 and a new baby. I'm a freelance writer / stay at home mom. I quit my job at my state health department a year and a half ago to be home and I love it.

I've crocheted since I was about 9. I taught myself from a library book. I'm going to be 34 soon, so I've crocheted for about 25 years.

This project excites me, as if I need another project. I'm already working on 6 pillowghans, one huge rainbow blanket and two scarves.

I need to haul out my other yarn from storage and choose some colors!

Hi. My name is Malinda, but everyone calls me Coopkitten. I am a meowmie to 15 cats and a HUGE fan of Alice Cooper. I've been knitting for about 10 years now. I started working on the temperature scarf earlier this week. I went to the Weather Channel website and looked up the daily high temps for the month of January. It amazes me that we've had temps ranging from the high 60s to the low 20s in 31 days. I can already tell this is going to be quite the colorful scarf!

starting temperature CAL

Postby texas44 » Fri Feb 01, 2013 5:41 pm

I am retired and live in Pacific NW. I have been knitting for several years but would like to improve my crochet skills. So I am going to CAL using Tunisian crochet. I found a pattern for 35 blocks using different techniques but will crochet in strips instead of blocks. I am looking forward to learning new skills. Linda

Hi everyone!!

I'm another Vanessa, and I'm also in Toronto, and going back to January 1st to start my scarf! And I think that I will be using the wind chill/humidity factor as my temperature scale. I just found out about this project today, so I will be going to the wool shop this weekend to pick up my wool :)

Hi, my name is Di and I started my scarf today. I want to know about the tutorial on changing yarn at the beginning of a row. When can we see that??

I think this "temperature" scarf/cowl/afghan idea is great. I live in Atlanta, GA, so I think there will be LOTS of warm colors in my scarf...they don't call it HOTlanta for nothing! :cooldude: I'm looking forward to knitting a little on it each day (though I think I'll backdate it to Jan. 1, 2013 because we've actually had some pretty chilly weather recently and I don't want to lose the opportunity to use "cool" colors!) since I usually knit a little every evening. Be sure to visit us here in the Bernat Forum as well!
Our virtual sitting room is for the entire globe also. :hellogoodbye:

Definitely!

We're just helping each other out on that - a lot of our group are new to using Forums ( :smashy: ), so we're teaching each other and supporting each other. We're checking in here too.

Hi. I'm from Hamilton, Ontario and saw the Temperature Scarf project in a Bernat eNewsletter, clicked on the link and thought "hey, that sounds like fun". As a long-time digital designer and Web developer, I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel so, depending on my workload for clients, it is rarely that I sit down and knit or crochet for hours like I used to. This project seems to fit the bill—just a bit of needlework a day!
