Scarf Length

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

You could also do 4 afghans (one for each season) and each afghan can have 3 columns (one for high temps, one for low temps and one for the weather. However, you may find that would be too busy depending upon your climate/city you are representing.

Alternatively, you could do granny squares and each square would represent the high, low and weather for each day and still do the 4 afghans to represent the seasons so it is not super large.

Let us know what you decide!

Thank you for the suggestions, Dmack. I'm still trying to figure out what I'll do, but I'm starting to warm to the idea of squares because I'm thinking of how the days are represented in blocks on a calendar. I've been sick with a sinus/inner ear infection since New Year's so for some reason I'm having a hard time thinking these days. I don't know if I do blocks, how big to make them or how many to do on a row. I'll let you know what I figure out. Thanks again!

I did a small swatch and found out that for me, crocheting 4 rows equaled 1 inch.
After doing all the math..
2 rows per day no border = 15+ Feet
2 rows per day + bordering = 16+ feet
1 row per day + end bordering = 7+ feet

So yeah, I'm only doing 4 rows of the border color on both ends and crocheting only
1 row of a color per day. I want something a bit more practical that I know I'll wear.

Thanks, Shandeh! I'm on my fourth antibiotic :( It's one mighty tough infection brought on we think by some strain of cold/flu I caught in December. Unfortunately, everyone at work is sick with something so it's hard not to catch some bug. I'm looking forward to finally beating it though.

I'm loving reading all the posts on this CAL/KAL project. I can't wait to see the pictures of everyone's ideas. I'm tossing over the idea of blocks of some sort for my afghan (since I don't wear scarves).

I too hope that you are better soon! Being sick is no fun and it messes with your mind! I just spent nearly a year sick, and I am really doing everything I can to avoid the flu...I can't imagine getting sick again :scared: ! Hand washing hand sanitizer, wipes etc.... I nearly went ballistic on some poor woman at the gym when she attempted to drink my water bottle in class  !

When you are feeling better, make a test square and go from there. There is also someone here who is doing mitered squares, maybe msg her to see how she figured it out and go from there.

Let us know what you decide and can't wait to see the beginnings of it!

You know at the gym when you are in a class all the bottles are lined up along the wall - its an easy mistake to make - however, our bottles were not even matching :hrmm: ! So I am not sure what she was even thinking  .

I usually don't bring a generic bottled water to class for that exact reason, but that morning I was in a rush and grabbed the bottle instead of filling a reusable one! oh well! Lesson learned! :cooldude:

Oh and good news....I should have my beads in about 10 days so I can finally get started!!

Stay healthy folks and keep :knit: :knit: :knit: :knit: :knit:

I just did my January rows (I'm crocheting, using the Bernat Satin and the recommended pattern), and my color rows came out to exactly 12" (not including the border stripes). That means my scarf will be 12 feet of color stripes and then the extra length for the border stripes. Although I went ahead and crocheted the border at the end of January, I haven't yet decided whether or not to keep it. It will add roughly 8.5" to do the border stripes as written. Huh. Don't know what to do.

Fortunately, I have time to decide, as after being able to do the entire month in just a couple of hours tonight, I have decided to work on the scarf once a month, after the previous month's temperatures have all been recorded.

I need to read the instructions for posting photographs. Never did sort that out during the Mystery CAL last year. LOL
