Discussion and Photos of our Works in Progress (Jan. & Feb.)

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

Here's a photo of my granny square afahan. I am up to date as of 2.1.13. The width is 48 inches and the squares are just short of 2.5 inches. I have 20 squares per row, and will have 20 rows total. I will have 3 white squares between each month and 1 white square at the beginning and end of the afghan ... 400 squares total. I will decide what kind of boarder to add when this is over - don't know how much tmperature color yarn I'll have left over.

Here is a copy of my layout by date. I wasn't able to upload an exce file, so I scanned it ...hopefully you can read it! :idonno:

I was eating my words after wish for colder weather to make sure my coldest colour got on my scarf. We had a really unpleasant cold snap, followed by 13C! So not only did I get the coldest colour on the scarf, but I also got a new warm colour.

Anyway, here is my January wrap-up. http://ruralrebellion.wordpress.com/201 ... y-wrap-up/

I tried several times to attach photos for those who do not want to visit my personal blog, but for some reason it's not letting me attach files today. Grr.

Crochetfanatic - Bernat has a free pattern for a snowflake. http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=5347
In the 2012 Mystery CAL, the design in Clue 2 reminded me of a flower. http://www.bernat.com/2012mysteryafghan ... -clue2.pdf
The design in Clue 3 reminded me of the sun.

Perhaps incorporate them into the month-end separators.

Was there going to be a video or guide to weaving in all the ends? The weather in the NW changes every 5 minutes so I will have a lot of yarn to weave in...

I have been using a yarn needle to hide the ends through previous stitches after I work a few rows. This way I won't have to deal with the hassle of doing it all at once when the scarf is about 7' long.

Finally got my act together and redid January through to today on the correct needles.

Today was 5C so that's Royal Blue for me.

Is anyone else as astounded as I am at how much two little rows can change the look of the whole piece so much? :knit:

I just joined the forums last night so that I could join in the Temperature KAL/CAL chat!

I, too, was so excited about this project that I decided to go back and knit for the month of January. I decided that I wanted to knit the temperatures from a place I wanted to visit, instead of where I live, so I'll be knitting Israel's temperatures.

I'm using Skacel's Simpliworsted, which I super love, but I'm not 100% in love with my color choices. But, the yarn has been purchased and wound into balls, so there's not much use in second guessing my colors, now!

I decided to double the number of cast on stitches and knit in the round, instead of a flat scarf. I much prefer this method of scarf making because A: I hate weaving in ends, which this eliminates, B: I think it's a much more polished look and C: it makes a warmer scarf.

This is what I've done thus far - pretty predictable except for that random, warm, orange day! lol

Looks great! Did you read the Photo Tutorial I made? The Bernat Forum uses BBCode instead of HTML.
