How do you increse?

Good morning all,
I'm knitting the pompom beanie for my granddaughter.I know how to knit and purl but got confused with the instructions,knit,inc 2 sts evenly across. Where would you add the increase in the middle or on the ends? How would I do the increase?

I usually divide the number of stitches by 1 more than it tells me to increase in this case by 3 and then knit that
number of stitches if it comes out to an uneven number knit the extra on the ends.
e.q. you have 70 stitches and need to increase 2, 70 divided by 3 is 23 so knit 23, increase, knit 23, increase and then knit 24.
I do my in the middle of a row increases by picking up the bar between the 2 stitches and then knitting into the back of it. There are other ways to do it this just happens to be my choice.

How would I do the increase?

The usual increase for Bernat designs is to knit front and back.
