Stitching Choices for your Temperature Scarf

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

Share your thoughts here! i like seed stitch

Maybe you'd rather use garter stitch throughout, or stockinette, or a different choice.

I knit the whole of January just as the pattern was written, wove in all.those.ends. and decided I hated the way it looked because I'm terrible at weaving ends.

So, I ripped the whole thing out and decided to double the amount of cast on stitches and knit it in the round, stockinette. The solves the problem of weaving in ends, and it gives me a very clean scarf and a very warm scarf. The only potential problem I see is running out of yarn. I've already spent way, way, WAY too much money on the yarn for this scarf!

I'll be crocheting this one. I will probably do as suggested as I am technically a beginner and this is my first CAL. Although I might just up it to DC instead of SC because it might not be so tight. Oh well test swatch to find out and time to research my temperatures.

Well we had gray skies and snow today. That was my choice for today. I am doing different stiches as the mood strikes. Lastly I think I will look up I cord for edge because the different stiches change the edges. This has become a challenge, but fun !

My thoughts exactly!
The more I think about it, though, the more attractive knitting in the round becomes. Even if I had to buy more yarn, it would probably only be for the five colors that are used the most. The scarf I'm doing is for my grandson, and it will show the daily high temperatures for his birth year, 1996. I've already charted it, using 10 colors, and only five of the colors will have more than 100 rows.

I ripped it out, again, and reduced the number of stitches because it was just so.much.scarf! I finally ended up with 50 stitches total (in the round, of course), making it a good deal more narrow. I'm finally happy with it and am completely caught up!

I have decided to create my scarf where the first row is single crochet, double, single, double, single.....and the next row alternates with Double, single, double, single, double...... It makes a nice texture. Hoping to take a picture when I get started.... :D

I have been contemplating how I wanted to do this CAL since the beginning. I've been tracking the weather and even went back to last year as well.

After much thought I believe I will do an Entrelac Tunisian Crochet blanket for this year. Thinking I will separate the months still using the black color. I can decide if I want to do an entire "round" to separate the months or just a couple of blocks. Guess I will figure that out once I start on January! :) SO excited to get this going!

I have my yarn to do the second scarf. I want to knit :knit: this one but still not sure on how to change colors. Do you tie your new color on the old yarn at end of row or do you do something different? Also, I'm new at knitting and I need to know if stockinette stitch is more stretchy then garter stitch? I'm scared to do the seed stitch as the directions doesn't give instructions :idonno: on how to do the 2nd row. I will make the 2nd scarf for the year 1959 for Kalamazoo, MI my birth year and birth city. :knit:
2013 Temperature Scarf (crocheted) Battle Creek, MI using Bernat Satin yarn
1959 temperature scarf (knitted) Kalamazoo, MI
