Introduce Yourself!

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

Hello ! I'm Labrige, from Rouen, Normandy (France, Europe), and I'll try to refresh my american-english vocabulary !
I really loved the last CAL and KAL, and the afghans were appreciated a lot (the first one has since the last sewing knot done an important place on my armchair !!!).

This challenge, "meteo-challenge", is fantastic ! Here, the sky is very often grey ... light grey, dark grey .... it is raining, sometines snowing, often windy .... :hrmm:
No ...; as a matter of fact, it in only what remains in our mind ! In fact, we also have a lot of sun, blue skies (with light white clouds ....) : if you know about Impressionism, Monet, Giverny, ... you can see what I mean ... The light here is very special, and a lot of great painters came here in the late 19°and 20° century and tried to caught these impressions.

So, maybe my scarf will be mainly grey ... :rainy: and no :cloud9: (in our hearts only !)

The temperature is also quite"soft" : sometimes -10°C (rare !), sometimes +35°C (rare !), but mainly between 5 and 20 ...

While watching the rain (not today, the sun is trying to come !), I'll think of the best way of picking this and maybe I'll be surprised at the end of it !!!

See your works soon .... and show mine ...

Ah.....Labrige.....you are a philosopher! "as a matter of fact, it is only what remains in our mind!" I really llike that. It sounds so much better than "selective Memory!" I'm sure your project will be très belle!

I'm using Cascade 220 Sport weight and a wavy design. I also decided I wanted to be a full 2013 scarf, so I went back and knitted up January. Really brought home how warm January was!

I love the wavy idea and wonderful colors

Hi! I'm Kristen Cooper (from Honey Nutbrown's). I'm going to be doing this scarf in a horseshoe stitch pattern using different shades of blue (ombre). I'm using the Bernat Satin for this project. I think this time around I am going to be doing increments of ten degrees (we have a huge variation in our Northern BC weather. In January the daily highs spanned 35 degrees!). I am looking forward to seeeing how this one turns out, it is already vastly different from my original scarf http://400squareftliving.blogspot.ca/se ... re%20Scarf.

I just purchased my yarn in the colors suggested- I am much better off when someone else picks the colors. I am knitting for the temperature in northern Vermont because this will be a Christmas present for a newly wed- getting married in June 2013. I am a novice knitter and have always wanted to try a KAL project and this is the perfect time to dive in. I have researched the January temps and will be starting today.

Hi everyone! My name is Kate. I am a single mom of two, living in Des Moines, IA. My daughter is 12 and my special needs son is 21. They are my world - though crocheting comes in at a close second!

I so excited to get started!! I have so many other projects that need my attention... but... they can wait! ; )

I am using Sheepish yarn, in all the colors except the light pink. My store was out of that, but that's ok with me, it's not my favorite. So that gives me 15 colors to use for temperatures, off white to use for borders, and saving black (also not my favorite) for extreme weather conditions - tornadoes, snow dumps, etc. I can't figure out how y'all make those handy thermometer graphics showing your colors and ranges, so I will take a picture of my sample card when I get it sorted out!

I am also not making a scarf, but a blanket. By my calculations, if I follow the pattern given (moss/granite stitch) with a G hook, I get 5 rows to an inch. I only plan on one row per day, so my blanket should be 6 - 7 feet. Which is fine, since we are all tall folks!

I am using our local temperatures, but I haven't decided whether I want to use year 1991 or this year. 1991 is my son's birth year. But there are big changes in my life that are happening this year. And, if I make a blanket for my son specifically, I will have to make one for my daughter, and I am not sure I am ready to commit to two blankets! I have until I finish the first border row to decide!!

I look forward to getting to know everyone!!

I would to introduce myself to the KAL group.

Postby myju » Sat Feb 09, 2013 1:07 pm

Thank you for this very interesting KAL project. I would like to introduce myself to the KAL group. I live in Kentucky and I have been knitting & crocheting since I was 9 years old. However, this is my first KAL. I just couldn’t resist this one. I am very excited about the 2013 KAL Temperature scarf. I have when working on the scarf since I first read about it on line in January 2013.

I am using 12 colors like a color wheel plus white for the beginning border and the dividers for each month. I am only knitting one row per day to represent the high temperature. I have chosen an Orenburg Sampler-style knitted lace scarf pattern from Piecework Magazine July/Aug. 2010. I have changed the wrong side rows to be purl rows to keep the scarf smoother looking on the right side. I have completed January 2013 and am now working on February 2013. I really like how it looks even through the lace isn’t the focus it still makes the colors pop.

I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of this 2013 KAL Temperature Scarf group. I really
appreciate it.

My nickname is myju.

Hi! My name is Tammi and I am a SAHM of 3 kids (ages 6,5, almost 2). I live in Bozeman, MT and I love crafting, whether it's crocheting, knitting, sewing, painting, etc. I do most of my work at night after the kiddos are in bed and while hanging with my hubby. I am so excited for this project...the colors are so invigorating! I am using the colors suggested because I love the variety. I am not doing the temperatures for this year, but for the year I was born (I want to wear this scarf as soon as possible), and for my home town of Lewistown, MT. The temperatures that year ranged from -13 degrees to 91 degrees. Gotta love Montana! There's a saying that goes "if you don't like the weather here, just wait 5 minutes." :) I am finishing up another scarf right now, but I hope to start this one within the next few days!
