SO I learned to crochet in the fall of 2012, so I started the 2012 CAL in 2013 when it seemed there wasn't going to be one this year for an afghan. (I am knitting the temp scarf). So anyway, it wasn't a mystery to me as I have looked at many finished blankets. I made a few changes here and there to match a afghan I saw on the forum. Here is my layout:

Totally clueless on how to put it together-row by row, or what? What about corners or will that become apparent to me once I start? I loved this project and have ordered my yarn for the 2012 KAL. The yarn for the CAL is Bernat super value, the Waverly was pricey for me and didn't really have the color scheme I wanted.

You can assemble row by or I did clusters as I went with the original layout. You could even be a rebel and start from the center out. :) as for the border I did 3 blankets and did all 3 of them a little different from each other but all of them started with a simple single crochet to have a "blank" canvas.
