Discussion and Photos of our Works in Progress (Jan. & Feb.)

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

I LOVE how it's turning out! The stitch pattern paired with those shades looks so delicate, but in a good way - amazing!

I didn't want to share until I was more or less caught up... so here it is! I'm doing corrugated ribbing where the border and knit stitches are white, and the temperatures are purled. I change shades on the wrong side and work two rows. I wove in all the ends from January 1 - February 5 in one lunch hour (as well as chatting with coworkers and eating), so it's no issue at all.

I'm loving how this is looking :D When we planned the KAL I said "I'll participate, but I'll probably donate the final project." Now that I see it being worked up, I'm pretttty excited to keep it. It's going to be a cowl, so I'll wrap it around two or three times.

We had some pretty varied temperatures this month, with highs up to 60 F (light green) and down to 11 F (dark, sparkly purple).

Yours looks pretty similar to mine - we must live in similar climates- What are you doing to get that double piping look on the edges? That's lovely!

Thanks! :D The edges are 4 stitches in seed stitch on each end.

I'm so excited about my scarf! I love the way it looks so far. I'm using sheepish yarn with a gray border and a linen stitch, which I have never used before but have been enamored with for a while. I'm only about a week behind now. I'm not sure I have enough contrast because I'm using both lime-ish and chartruese-ish. My scarf is only about 4"- or 5"- wide but I think it will.work.for me! I've made a few rows incorrectly and I think the ends will be a daunting task if I don't get on them soon. They're starting to fray quite a bit!

Well, after doing all of January and a week into February with a stockinette tube scarf on size 6 needles, I decided that it was just going to be too thick for me to ever wear in Texas. So, I ripped the whole thing out, researched some more open stitch patterns, and re-knit in this star mesh pattern on size 9 needles. It's going to be nice and airy, but it's going to be a million feet long!

I am a little behind on my project. I decided to crochet an afghan instead of a scarf and now I am wondering if I bit off more than I can chew. In any case, here is my progress, so far.

I also decided to crochet the entire year, so this is almost halfway through January. I'm loving the colors, so far. I'm going to try and get through the rest of January this weekend and then get working on February. :)

I blogged about my afghan and color "thermometer" too http://www.thisgirlcreates.com/2013/01/a-fun-and-scientific-cal.html.

After looking at all your great photos, I decided to try my first post with photo - not sure if this is going to work!
This is January in northwestern Vermont. I am only doing one row per day so I have a scarf I will actually wear...and I am going to have an uphill battle weaving in all the ends, I think.

Love all the photos of everyones scarf, all so different.
I will post another pic at the end of Febuary.
I weave in the ends every few days so that I won't have so much work when I have finished.

Very pretty colors and I love your stitch work. Makes me wish I could crochet.
