Discussion and Photos of our Works in Progress (Jan. & Feb.)

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

Here's mine with about half of January done. I wanted to do seed stitch, but the first attempt didn't look right, so I switched to garter. Not sure how I'm going to make all those ends work, the right side is already terribly misshapen.

Fearing a scarf that would be way too long, I decided to do a motif. It's a rectangle I found on the internet at hooksandyarns.blogspot.com. I have decided to do average highs and lows for the month. The center color is the average low and the outer is the average high. The Snow border is what I will use to attach the rectangles. I posted a list of my colors in the colors portion of this blog. I may adjust as I move along through the year.

I was just too excited about this project, I couldn't help but go back to Jan 1st and crochet up until now. I already happened to have 7 colours in the same satin yarn, so I was pretty much good to go! I just picked up a couple other colours for the far ends of my temperature spectrum, thinking I won't need them for a while. But when I woke up this morning, it felt like -18, so I need to get my dark purple sparkle row on the scarf today.

But here it is up to yesterday:

How did you get your sides so straight? I am trashing my first attempt because it's totally off on one side? Help? :hrmm:
Thanks, TinyTerror

Here is how my scarf is looking recording the temperature in western NC. January was definitely warmer than February.

This is January in Cincinnati Ohio. The thinner scarf is the low temps and the thicker one is the highs. Doing two rows a day. Using impeccable yarn in 10 degree increments.

Argh!!! I just found out the weather data I've been following is at a station inland from me where the temperatures are warmer. My afghan is off by 5 plus degrees up to this point. I'm trying not to be a perfectionist and just follow the station closest to me from now on. I guess only I'll know that the first two months aren't accurate...

I recently noticed that the weather.com "Month" page is often different from what it posts on their "Today" page as the observed high. I have no idea why, but like you, I'm trying not to obsess about it. Grrr...

I think that weather.com is slow at updating the highs and lows for the previous day. I have been taking the weather from wunderground.com. I was curious how different the project would be if using a different website so compared to weather.com and so far are the same for highs and lows.

I'm still a little behind with my scarf, but I'm making some progress! I'm about halfway through with February now.

I have used almost every color of my yarns these two months. But, I'm sure the summer months will bring a LOT of pink and red added to the mix.

How is everyone else's scarf looking at the end of February? Two months down!
