There WILL be seaming involved for both blankets. They will be made in motifs, and then joined together at the end. However, we will be showing you some good seaming techniques that may make joining less painful than you're used to. And having the support of everyone else here will help too!

Also, I will be hosting after-hours "joining parties", so we can all work on our seams together, and talk about silly stuff. :D

I was going to ask if the pattern was different but my question was already answered! Thank you! Also, people keep saying last years and then saying 2010. You all realize that last year was 2011??? Am I going crazy or did I miss something?

Yeah, it does cause confusion.

Last year (2011), we did a KAL/CAL making baby blankets for Project Linus.
In 2010, we did the Mystery CAL Blanket, using Bernat Softee Chunky, that everyone is talking about.
In 2009, we did a Mystery KAL Blanket, using Bernat Satin yarn.

Bernat Satin was used for our 2009 KAL Blanket.

I believe it works to the same gauge as Bernat Waverly, but it is a silkier yarn.
You are free to use whatever yarn you want, but the blanket was designed to work best with Bernat Waverly.

When you crochet an afghan with squares and other shapes that join together, do you measure and block all the shapes separately before sewing them together? And if so what do you use? ie. a quilt mat? a piece of cardboard? Do you use pins? just wondering. thanks

Until I got proper blocking mats I used pizza boxes with the correct size drawn on them and then pinned my pieces on them. I also briefly (15 to 25 secs) held these over a large pot of boiling water as I found that steam blocking worked better with acrylic (is Waverly acrylic?) and I did it from the first week onwards (especially as I was making three afghans) so that everything wasn't happening in the joining week. After the pizza boxes I graduated to exercise mats which could hold more pieces. I hope this helps. Some people also have stainless steel wires that they use to block with too.
