CAL 2012

I was wondering if the CAL project will be for individually crocheted items(squares/circles) that will be joined to make a bigger project or one done as a whole with the varying colors. I do not prefer granny square/circle projects that need to be joined. If you can, please advise. Thank you!

All of our mystery blankets are worked in pieces, and then they are joined together at the end. Otherwise, the final product wouldn't be a mystery for very long!

I am going to do a knit and a crochet. I want to make one for my 15 year old grandson. I got the colors that will do well in his room. I am wondering which one would be best design for a boy. Or will there be some squares I will have to do differently (like the last one with the flowers, I would have had to do the stripe square or something else. I just hate to start the croc one for him only to find out that the knit one would have worked better. I want to work along with the group and not wait to see what the final product is to start.

I believe the knitted blanket will work better for a boy.

I am trying to decide on the colors that I want to use but if I had an idea of what the "scheme" is it would help a lot

That's the fun of a mystery blanket. We have no idea what it will look like until the final reveal!

I need to use stash for this project. Will the design/stitches show up well if I used all black? If not, I have a bright violet/purple I'll use...but only if I decide against the different contrasts.
I'm glad there's time to think about it1

In order for stitches and textures to show clearly in your finished product, it would be better to use lighter yarns. Black tends to make some stitches disappear from view.

Jeesh....I can't believe the amount of time I just spent trying to decide on the Waverly yarn I want to use for this project. I just ordered the yarn. This is my first mystery afghan and I'm eager to start!
