Classic warmth & style any man will love. Hat fits average man. Scarf approx. 9 in (23 cm) wide x 49 in (124.5 cm) long (excluding fringe). Shown in Softee Chunky Dark Blue (#39110) knit on sizes 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) and 6.5 mm (U.S. 10-1/2) needles.

MEASUREMENTS
Hat: To fit average man.
Scarf: Approx 9 ins [23 cm] wide x 49 ins [124.5 cm] long (excluding fringe).

MATERIALS
Bernat Softee Chunky (100 g/3.5 oz)
1 ball for Hat, 2 balls for Scarf or 3 balls for Set of (39110 Dark Blue)

Sizes 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) and 6.5 mm (U.S. 10½) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE: 16 sts and 21 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with smaller needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
HAT
With smaller needles, cast on 82 sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows for (K2. P2) ribbing until work from beg measures 2 ins [5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row and inc 3 sts evenly across last row. 85 sts.

Beg with a knit row, proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 4¾ ins [12 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape top: 1st row: *K10. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 78 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: *K9. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 71 sts.
5th row: *K8. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 64 sts.
6th row: Purl.
Cont in this manner, dec 7 sts evenly across next and following alt rows to 15 sts.

Break yarn leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts, draw up firmly and fasten securely. Sew center back seam.

SCARF
With larger needles, cast on 30 sts.
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows for Garter Rib Pat until work from beg measures 49 ins [124.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

Fringe: Cut yarn 9 ins [23 cm] long. Taking 2 strands tog, knot into fringe across ends of scarf. Trim fringe evenly.
