Softee Chunky Twists - Half-Zip Pullover (knit)

Adorable half-zip pullover is warm and practical. Sizes 2 - 10 (chest measurement 21 - 28 in (53.5 - 71 cm). Shown in Bernat Softee Chunky Twists Tropic Twist (#87712) knit using sizes 5 mm (U.S. 8) and 6 mm (U.S. 10) needles.

SIZES
To fit chest measurement: 2 (4-6-8-10): 21 (23-25-26½-28) ins [53.5 (58.5-63.5-67.5-71) cm].

Finished chest: 25 (27-29-31½-32½) ins [63.5 (68.5-73.5-80-82.5) cm].

MATERIALS
Bernat Softee Chunky Twists (340 g/12 oz):
1 (1-2-2-2) ball(s) of #87712 (Tropic Twist).

Sizes 5 mm (U.S. 8) and 6 mm (U.S. 10) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Zipper. 1 st holder.

GAUGE: 15 sts and 23 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in pat.

INSTRUCTIONS: The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

BACK:
**With smaller needles, cast on 47 (51-55-59-61) sts.
1st row: (RS). P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: Knit. Rep last 2 rows of Rice St Pat once more.
Change to larger needles and cont in pat until work from beg measures 7 (8½-9½-10½-11½) ins [18 (21.5-24-26.5-29) cm], ending with a WS row.

Shape armholes: Cast off 4 (5-5-6-6) sts beg of next 2 rows. 39 (41-45-47-49) sts.**
Cont even in pat until armholes measure 6½ (7-7½-8-8½) ins [16.5 (18-19-20.5-21.5) cm], ending with a WS row.

Shape shoulders: Cast off 5 (5-6-6-7) sts beg next 2 rows, then 5 (6-6-6-6) sts beg next 2 rows. Leave rem 19 (19-21-23-23) sts on a st holder.

FRONT: Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
Divide for Front: Next row: (RS). Pat across 19 (20-22-23-24) sts. Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle.

Cont even in pat until armhole measures 4 (4½-4½-5-5) ins [10 (11.5-11.5-12.5-12.5) cm], ending with a RS row.

Shape neck: Next row: (WS). K3. Slip these sts onto a safety pin. Pat to end of row. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows, then on every following alt row to 10 (11-12-12-13) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures same length as Back to shoulder, ending with a WS row.

Shape shoulder: (RS). Cast off 5 (5-6-6-7) sts beg next row.
Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 5 (6-6-6-6) sts.

With RS of work facing join yarn to rem sts: K2tog. Pat to end of row. 19 (20-22-23-24) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 4 (4½-4½-5-5) ins [10 (11.5-11.5-12.5-12.5) cm], ending with a WS row.

Shape neck: Next row: (RS). Pat across 3 sts. Slip these sts onto a safety pin. Pat to end of row.
Work 1 row even. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows, then on every following alt row to 10 (11-12-12-13) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures same length as Back to shoulder, ending with a RS row.

Shape shoulder: Cast off 5 (5-6-6-7) sts beg next row.
Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 5 (6-6-6-6) sts.

SLEEVES: With smaller needles, cast on 27 (27-29-31-31) sts.
Work 4 rows in Rice St Pat as given for Back.
Change to larger needles and cont in pat, inc 1 st each end of next and every following 2nd (4th-4th-4th-4th) row to 33 (51-49-51-51) sts, then every following 4th (6th-6th-6th-6th) row to 49 (53-57-61-65) sts.
Cont even until work from beg measures 9 (11-13-14½-16) ins [23 (28-33-37-40.5) cm], ending with a WS row. Place marker at each end of last row.
Work 6 (8-8-10-10) rows in pat. Cast off loosely.

FINISHING: Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.

Collar: Sew shoulder seams. With RS of work facing and smaller needles, K3 from right safety pin. Pick up and knit 11 (11-12-13-15) sts up right front neck edge. K19 (19-21-23-23) from back st holder, dec 1 st at center. Pick up and knit 11 (11-12-13-15) sts down left front neck edge. K3 from left safety pin. 46 (46-50-54-58) sts.
1st row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows of (K2. P2) ribbing until Collar from pick up row measures 2 (2½-2½-3-3) ins [5 (6-6-7.5-7.5) cm]. Cast off in ribbing.

Front edging: With RS of work facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 23 (26-26-30-30) sts down edge of collar and left side of front opening, 1 st at center and 23 (26-26-30-30) sts up right side of front opening and edge of collar. 47 (53-53-61-61) sts. Cast off loosely knitwise.

Sew in Sleeves, placing rows above markers along cast off sts of Front and Back to form square armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew zipper behind front edging.
