This pretty and practical shopping tote allows you to carry your goods home with flair! Finished size approx. 7 x 13.5" [18 x 34.5 cm]. Crochet in Bernat Handicrafter Cotton on size 6.5 mm (U.S. K or 10.5) hook.

MEASUREMENTS
Approx 7 x 13½ ins [18 x 34.5 cm].

MATERIALS: Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/1.75 oz)
Main Color (MC) (00083 Cornflower) 9 balls
Contrast A (00089 Banana) 2 balls
Contrast B (00001 White) 2 balls
Contrast C (13712 Hot Green) 2 balls

Size 6.5 mm (U.S. K or 10½) crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension.

GAUGE: 11 hdc and 7 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with 2 strands of yarn.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Note: To change color, work to last 2 loops on hook. Draw loop of next color through 2 loops on hook to complete st and proceed. Ch 2 does not count as hdc.

Stripe Pat
Work 1 row with A.
Work 1 row with MC.
Work 1 row with C.
Work 1 row with MC.
Work 1 row with B.
Rep last 5 rows twice more.
These 15 rows form Stripe Pat.

Front and Back (make alike)
With 2 strands of MC, ch 38.
1st row: (WS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 37 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row 3 times more. Join A at end of last row.
Next row: (RS). With 2 strands of A, ch 2. 1 hdc in first st. 1 hdc in next st through back loop only. *1 hdc in next st through front loop only. 1 hdc in next st through back loop only. Rep from * to last st. 1 hdc in last st. Turn.
1st row of Stripe Pat is complete.
Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last row until 15 rows of Stripe Pat are complete. Join MC at end of last row.

Next row: (WS). With 2 strands of MC, ch 1. 1 sc in first hdc. 1 sc in next hdc in back loop only. *1 sc in next hdc in front loop only . 1 sc in next hdc in back loop only. Rep from * to last hdc. 1 sc in last hdc. Place marker at each end of row.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row 4 times more. Fasten off.

Edging: With RS of Front facing, join 2 strands of MC with sl st to bottom right corner. Ch 1. Work 27 sc up right side of Front. Fasten off.
With RS of Front facing, join MC with sl st to top left corner. Ch 1. Work 27 sc down left side of Front.
Rep for Back.

Gusset
With 2 strands of MC, ch 3.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next ch. Ch 1. Turn.
2nd row: 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Ch 1. Turn.
Rep last row 6 times more.

Next row: 2 sc in each of next 2 sc. Ch 1. Turn. 4 sc.

Next 7 rows: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
Next row: 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1. Turn. 6 sc.
Next row: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
Rep last row until work from beg measures 30 ins [76 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Next row: Draw up loop in each of next 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook - sc2tog made. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sc. Ch 1. Turn. 4 sc.
Next 7 rows: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
Next row: (Sc2tog) twice. Ch 1. Turn. 2 sc.
Next 6 rows: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
Rep last row once more, omitting turning ch at end of row. Fasten off.

Handles (make 2)
With 2 strands of MC, ch 51.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 50 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row 7 times more. Fasten off.
Fold handle lengthwise and sew closed.

FINISHING
Pin Front and Gusset together between markers, WS facing. Join 2 strands of MC with sl st at left marker and working through both thicknesses proceed in sc down left side of Bag, across bottom and up right side to opposite marker. Do not turn.
Next row: Working from left to right instead of right to left, work 1 reverse sc in each sc to end of row. Fasten off.
Rep for Back.

With RS of work facing, join 2 strands of MC with sl st to marked st. Ch 1. Work 1 row of reverse sc around upper edge of Bag. Join with sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off.
Sew Handles to inside of Bag 2½ ins [6 cm] in from side edges as shown in picture.
