Small quantity of contrast yarn for embroidery.

Sizes 3.75 mm (U.S. 5) and 4 mm (U.S. 6) knitting needles for Jacket and Pants. Sizes 3.75mm(U.S. 5) and 4mm(U.S. 6) circular knitting needles 16 ins [40.5 cm] long for Skirt or size needed to obtain gauge. St holder and 7 buttons for Jacket. Length of ¾inch [2 cm] wide elastic for Pants or Skirt.

GAUGE
22 sts and 30 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st with larger needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

JACKET
BACK

With smaller needles, cast on 53 (59-65-67-71) sts.
1st row: (WS). Knit.
2nd row: Knit.
3rd row: *K1. P1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
Last row forms seed st pat.
Work a further 10 rows in seed st pat.

Button Band: Work as given for Buttonhole Band omitting all reference to buttonholes.
Sew bands in position to Fronts. Sew shoulder seams.
Collar: With RS of work facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit
16 (18-18-20-20) sts evenly up Right Front neck edge (beg in center of top edge of Button Band for Boy’s Version or Buttonhole Band for Girl’s Version).
K23 (23-25-27-29) from Back st holder.
Pick up and knit 16 (18-18-20-20) sts down Left Front neck edge (ending in center of top edge of Buttonhole Band for Boy’s Version or Button Band for Girl’s Version). 55 (59-61-67-69) sts.
Work 2½ (-2¾--3) ins [6 (6-7-7-7.5) cm] in seed st pat. Cast off in pat.
Sew in Sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on Pocket Flaps as illustrated. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes on Button Band. Sew button on each Pocket Flap through all thicknesses. With contrast yarn, work running st embroidery around edges as illustrated.

SKIRT
With smaller circular needle, cast on 108 (114-122-130-136) sts. Join in rnd placing a marker on first st.
1st rnd: Purl.
2nd rnd: Knit.
3rd rnd: *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
4th rnd: *P1. K1. Rep from * around.
Rep last 2 rnds 4 times more, then 3rd rnd once.
14th rnd: Knit.
15th rnd: Purl, inc 7 sts evenly around. 115 (121-129-137-143) sts.
Change to larger needle and knit in rnds until work from beg measures 7½ (-9¼-10¼-11¾) ins [19 (21-23.5-26-30) cm].
Next rnd: Purl.
Next rnd: Knit, dec 1 st at center. 114 (120-128-136-142) sts.
Change to smaller circular needle and work 2½ ins [6 cm] in seed st pat for waistband. Cast off loosely in pat.
Fold waistband in half to WS and sew in position leaving an opening to insert elastic. Cut elastic to waist measurement and draw through waistband. Sew ends of elastic tog. Sew opening closed. With contrast yarn, work running st embroidery at hem and waist as illustrated.

PANTS

RIGHT LEG

Work 2½ ins [6 cm] in seed st pat as given for Back of Jacket, ending with RS facing for next row and inc 1 st in center of last row. 56 (58-60-64-66) sts.
