Soft Boucle - Boa - Cowl Poncho (crochet)

Easy poncho pattern with a cowl neck and fun fringe. Shown in Bernat Soft Boucle and Bernat Boa. Size 5.5mm (U.S. I or 9) and 6mm (U.S. J or 10) crochet hook.

MATERIALS
Bernat® Soft Bouclé (140 g/5 oz)
Main Color (MC): 5 balls
Bernat® Boa (50 g/1.75 oz)
Contrast A: 1 ball

Sizes 5.5 mm (U.S. I or 9) and 6 mm (U.S. J or 10) crochet hooks or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE
4 V-sts and 7 rows = 5 ins [12.5 cm] in pat.

ABBREVIATIONS
Dcfp = yoh and draw up a loop around post of next st inserting hook from back to front. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.
Dcbp = yoh and draw up a loop around post of next st inserting hook from front to back. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.

INSTRUCTIONS
BACK and FRONT (make 2 pieces
alike)
Beg at point, with larger hook and MC, ch 5.
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 5th ch from hook (counts as 1 dc. Ch 2. 1 dc). Turn.
2nd row: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc. Ch 2). 1 dc in first dc - starting V-st made. (1 dc. Ch 2. 1 dc) in 3rd ch of ch 5 - V-st made. Turn.
3rd row: Starting V-st in first dc. V-st in sp between next 2 V-sts. V-st in 3rd ch of ch 5. Turn.
4th row: Starting V-st in first dc.
*V-st in sp between next 2 V-sts. Rep from * to last V-st. V-st in 3rd ch of ch 5. Turn.
Rep last row until there are 31 V-sts, ending with RS facing for next row.

Cont working sides even as follows:
1st row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in first dc. *V-st in sp between next 2 V-sts. Rep from * to last V-st. 2 dc in 3rd ch of ch 5. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). V-st in sp between next dc and next V-st.
*V-st in sp between next 2 V-sts. Rep from * to last 2 dc. V-st in sp between V-st and 2 dc. 1 dc in last dc. Turn.

Shape sides: 1st row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). *V-st in sp between next 2 V-sts.
Rep from *, ending with 1 dc in last dc. Turn.
Rep last row 17 times more. 13 V-sts (neck edge). Fasten off.

FINISHING
Sew side seams.

Collar: With RS facing, MC and smaller hook, work 72 sc evenly around neck edge. Join with sl st to first sc.
1st rnd: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each sc around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
2nd rnd: Ch 2 (counts as dcfp). 1 dcfp in next dc. *1 dcbp in each of next 2 dc. 1 dcfp in each of next 2 dc. Rep from * to last 2 dc. 1 dcbp in each of last 2 dc. Join with sl st top top of ch 2.
Rep last rnd until Collar measures 9½ ins [24 cm]. Fasten off.

Lower Edging: With RS facing and larger hook, join A with sl st at either side seam. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp.Work 1 row of sc evenly around outer edge, working 3 sc in each point. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Fringe: Cut 12 inch [30.5 cm] lengths of MC and A. Taking 2 strands of MC and 1 strand of A tog, knot into fringe in every 3rd sc around lower edge of Poncho. Trim fringe evenly.
