Denimstyle - Family Stripes (knit)

This easy sweater pattern for the whole family incorporates stripes to keep things interesting. Shown in Bernat Denimstyle. Size 4.5mm (U.S. 7) and 5mm (U.S. 8) knitting needles.

With B work 1 row.

Child’s Version

BACK
**With smaller needles and B, cast on 58 (58-62-70-74) sts. Break B.
Join MC and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows of (K2. P2) ribbing for 1½ (1½-1½-2-2) ins [4 (4-4-5-5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row and inc 3 (5-5-3- 3) sts evenly across last row. 61 (63-67-73-77) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in Stripe Pat until work from beg measures 9 (10-11- 12½-15) ins [23 (25.5-28-32-38) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Armhole shaping: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 4 (4-4-5-6) sts beg next 2 rows. 53 (55-59-63-65) sts.**

Shape shoulders: Cast off 18 (18-19-20- 20) sts beg next 2 rows. Leave rem 17 (19-21- 23-25) sts on a st holder.

FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 3 (3½-3½-3½-4) ins [7.5 (9-9-9-10) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape neck: Next row: (RS). K22 (22-24-25- 25) (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then on following alt rows until there are 18 (18-19- 20-20) sts.
Cont even in pat until work measures same length as Back to beg of shoulders, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.
With RS of work facing, slip next 9 (11-11- 13-15) sts onto a st holder. Join appropriate color to rem sts and knit to end of row. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then on following alt rows until there are 18 (18-19-20-20) sts.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles and B, cast on 30 (34-34-34-34) sts. Break B.
With MC, work in (K2. P2) ribbing as given for Back for 1½ (1½-1½-2-2) ins [4 (4-4-5- 5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row and inc 2 (0-2-2-4) sts evenly across last row. 32 (34-36-36-38) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in Stripe Pat, inc 1 st each end of needle on next and every following 6th row until there are 50 (54-58-58-64) sts.
Cont even in pat until Sleeve from beg measures 12½ (14½-15¾-16½-17¼) ins [33 (37-40-42-44.5) cm] ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off. Place markers 1 (1-1-1¼-1½) ins [2.5 (2.5-2.5-3-4) cm] on side edges down from cast off row.

FINISHING
Collar: Sew right shoulder seam. With RS of work facing, MC and smaller needles, pick up and knit 16 (16-17-18-18) sts down left front neck edge. K9 (11-11-13-15) from front st holder, dec 0 (0-0-1-1) st at center. Pick up and knit 16 (16-17-18-18) sts up right front neck edge.

Sew left shoulder and neckband seam. Sew in sleeves placing rows above markers along cast off sts at Back and Front to form square armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.

K29 (29-31-31-33-33) from back st holder, dec 1 (1-3-1-3-3) st(s) evenly across. Pick up and knit 3 sts up back left neck edge and 36 (36-36-39-39- 39) sts down left front V-neck edge. 106 (106-106- 114-114-114) sts.
Work 5 rows in (K2. P2) ribbing, as given for Back.
