Purse: Size 5 mm (U.S. 8) knitting needles and size 5 mm (U.S. 8) circular knitting needle 24 ins [60 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge.
Magnetic snap closure. Handle 10 ins [25.5 cm] wide. ½ yd [.45 m] of lining fabric.

With longer circular needle and MC, cast on 158 (170-184-198-212) sts. Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.
Knit 2 rnds.
**Change to A and knit 9 rnds, placing a marker at each end of first and last rnds.**
Change to MC and knit 10 rnds.
Rep from** to ** once.
Change to MC and knit 8 rnds.
Rep from ** to ** once.
Change to MC and knit 6 rnds.
Rep from ** to ** once.
Change to MC and knit 1 rnd.

Shape shoulders: Next rnd: *K7 (8-8-9-10). K2tog. Rep from * to last 5 (0-4-0-8) sts. K5 (0-4- 0-8). 141 (153-166-180-195) sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Rep from ** to ** once.
Change to MC and knit 1 rnd.

Sizes 2XL/3XL and 4XL/5XL only: Knit 1 rnd.
Next rnd: *K(18-8). K2tog. Rep from * to last (0- 6) sts. K(0-6). (76-78) sts.
All Sizes: Cast off loosely.

FINISHING
With WS facing, fold Contrast A sections in half and sew marked rows tog at WS to form ridges on RS.

Purse

FRONT and BACK (make alike)
**With pair of needles and MC, cast on 40 sts loosely.
Work 4 rows in stocking st.
Shape sides: Dec 1 st each end of next and following 4th rows 3 times more. 32 sts.**
Cont even until work from beg measures 5 ins [12.5 cm], ending with a purl row. Cast off loosely.

FINISHING
Before sewing Back and Front tog, mark WS of lining fabric according to Front and Back Shapes with ¾ inch [1.5 cm] seam allowance. Cut lining pieces. Sew side and bottom seams using French Seam.

Edging: With RS facing, A and circular needle, pick up and knit 20 sts down side edge placing a marker on last st, 40 sts across cast on edge of Back, placing a marker on last st, 20 sts up side edge. 80 sts.
2nd row: *Purl to marked st. Inc 1 st in marked st. Rep from * once more. Purl to end of row.
3rd row: *Knit to marked st. Inc 1 st in marked st. Rep from * once more. Knit to end of row.
Rep 2nd row once more.
5th row: *Knit to marked st. K2tog. Rep from * once more. Knit to end of row.
6th row: *Purl to marked st. P2tog. Rep from * once more. Purl to end of row.
Rep 5th row once more.
Cast off loosely.
Fold edging in half and sew in position.

Sew Front and Back of Purse tog. Press lining ½ inch [1 cm] to wrong side at top edge. Insert lining. Sew top edge of lining ½ inch [1 cm] down from top edge of Purse.
Attach handle to side seams. Attach magnetic snap closure in the middle at top edge.
